What is yonk?
Yonkes is an informal (slang) Spanish word used for junk and/or junk-yards. Yonkes does NOT refer to "Yankees" as some monolingual English people erroneously assume. This word is iconic at Chicano Park in Barrio Logan, San Diego, CA thanks to a civil-rights-era mural that reads "Varrio Si, Yonkes No." Meaning "yes to community, no to junk-yards." This was in response to the City of San Diego's decision to zone junk-yards in a heavily Mexican community during the 1960's.

What does "yonk" mean?
A form of school ground hazing. Originating in a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. (Greenhills)
A "yonk" occurs as someone sneaks up behind another person, places one hand on the back of the yonkee's neck. Then grabs their forehead and proceeds to make a neck-breaking motion. This subsequently followed by saying (or yelling) some obnoxious sound effect. The intent is not to injure anything but pride.
That new kid just got "Yonked." Hope his neck is OK.
Yonk - what does it mean?
A member of the Irish Travellers who funds his or her lifestyle through fraud, mostly committed against the elderly. They typically offer to do home improvement work at an attractive price, then either run off with the money, or if they actually do the work, do a substandard job and then demand more money. Female yonks enjoy five finger discounts at department stores, attempting to exchange the stolen goods for cash.
Then they all go out for Sushi with their ill gained loot, parading their "lackeen" toddler daughters around like Jon Benet Ramsey.
