Definder - what does the word mean?

What is Hippie?

Unbathed miscreants from the flatulent 1960s who developed modern Progressive ideology with the help of LSD and other mind altering substances. They came to believe that hallucinogenics and finger-painting gave them great insight into complex socio-economic and political issues. They originally self-identified as "free love" flower children, but would fundamentally transform themselves into communist oppressors in their old age. What was once a call to live free, became a mad dash for mandates, bans, and suffocating regulation over anything that even remotely annoyed them.

They would eventually come to barnacle themselves to already existing Civil Rights movements. Although still attempting to rebel against their parents while pushing 70 years of age, they are oblivious to the fact that they are no longer counter-culture, that they are in fact: the culture, especially in academic sewers. Perhaps being the most unwise American generation in existence, even in old age they still cannot grasp the reality that the concept of Utopia is a fantasy.

Their lack of personal hygiene is legendary. They oftentimes like to surround themselves with bottles of their own urine, or feces filled compost heaps in their own basements. It's highly likely that between their affinity for their own human waste products and their anti-technology reverence for the Kaczynski-esque ravings of Karl Marx, that they will be bring back the Black Death some time before the next turn of the Century.

That filthy hippie won't get his mouth off that bong long enough to read a book; how does he know anything about economics?

Hippie - what is it?

One who embraces life to the fullest. Promotes peace, love and happiness, but sure as hell sticks up for what they believe in. One who looks upon all of these negative definitions and shakes his head thinking how sad it must be to no longer have the ability to dream of a world that we were all taught to strive for as children. One who loves everyone without prejudice.

John Lennon was a hippie.

What does "Hippie" mean?

Someone who wants to help the world, but ends up just smoking weed and tripping on acid. Includes college know-it-all hippie, giggling stoners, drum-circlers, and well dwellers. Cannot stand Slayer. John Lennon is often referred to as the King Of Hippies. The only cool hippie was Jimi Hendrix.

Hippie - definition

Non-conformists who support liberal ideals such as peace, civil rights, environmental awareness, government transparency, consumer protections, justice, and awareness about corporate and political corruption. Besides being largely a group of activists, they tend to represent and be comprised of common, working class people, artists, educators and philosophers who feel that their activism is an important civic duty, which is every citizen's responsibility to do. During the 1960s and 70s, they were associated with such things as far out music that had meaning and soul, tie-dye, flowers (the term "flower child"), laid back attitudes (in order to offset their strong sense of responsibility,) pot smoking (but not all hippies liked or used it,) long hair as an expression of non-conformity, and as a statement against conventionalism, and blind/thoughtless adherence to to arbitrary rules and societal norms, and yes.... a badass friggin guitarist- with enormous friggin balls who revolutionalized the electric guitar- by the name of Jimi Hendrix. (✿◠‿◠)✌☮

Some accomplishments of the hippie movement of the '60s and '70s:

-Advanced women's rights
-Upheld consumer protections
-Raised environmental awareness
-Promoted racial diversity
-Improved government transparency (at least temporarily)
-Raised awareness about corporate corruption
-Pushed forward many laws regarding poverty
-Helped end the Veitnam War
-Furthered the cause of peace
-Produced a WHOLE lot of groovy music

"She felt flattered when mean-spirited conservatives would call her a hippie as if it was some kind of insult, and thought to herself, 'well then I must be doing something right.'" (✿◠‿◠)✌☮

Hippie

A Hippie is a person who was raised under the ideological system that came out of the tumultuous 1960's in North America and western Europe. They are either of the flower-child/baby boomer generation or that generations' subsequent offspring. They possess a core belief set revolving around the values of peace and love as being essential in an increasingly globalized society, and they are oftentimes associated with non-violent anti-governmental groups. There is a stigma of drug abuse attached to the hippies that is prevalent to this day, specifically the use and abuse of marijuana and hallucinagens. Many rock movements, poets, artists, and writers from the 1960's to today have associated with this movement, most prominently The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and Phish. There are others too numerous to name. The movement, then and now, is considered a sub-culture by sociologists that associates itself with the left in all its political opinions. The conservative right often berates and abuses the opinions of people who associate themselves with the hippie movement and/or lifestyle, as the consider it dangerous and degenerative to a society to favor liberalism to such an extent.

"When we heard about the hippies, the barely more than boys and girls who decided to try something different... we laughed at them. We condemned them, our children, for seeking a different future. We hated them for their flowers, for their love, and for their unmistakable rejection of every hideous, mistaken compromise that we had made throughout our hollow, money-bitten, frightened, adult lives."
Author: June Jordan

"How many times must the cannonballs fly, before they're forever banned? ...How many deaths will it takes till he knows that too many people have died?"
Bob Dylan- Blowin in the wind.
