What is woodshed?
AKA shedding, woodshedding is one of the most ambiguous jazz terms around (but the version I learned from old time players will be posted here). Sheddin is the act of intensely practicing your instrument after being publicly humiliated by your bad playing. Woodshed - what is it?
The woodshed is the coolest place in America. For most of the year, the shed’s function is storing wood or possibly curing tobacco, but for a period of about two weeks it is emptied.
During this time, the shed can be used for throwing parties involving playing pong with 9loko.
A flaw of the woodshed is it’s thin roof which allows sound to easily escape and piss off anyone too lame or stupid to be in the woodshed.

To practice one's instrument. It is a term that comes from jazz culture. It originated from drumset practice due to the fact that drum sticks, after hours of playing, start to flake off small bits of wood (usually covering the floor around the drumset). This is reffered to as woodshedding. Although it originated as a drumming term, it is commonly used for any instrument. A shortened form of the word is shedding. Also, people generally refer to a place of practice as a woodshed or a shed.

Jazz musicians call the hard work of improvising being in the woodshed. To aid these skills they copy and memorize the jazz solos of the masters and experiment with their own ideas.
