What is college music?

The Ithaca College School of Music is comprised half of ridiculous talent and half of compete insanity.

Pretty much every faculty member is an urban legend and a ridiculous virtuoso. The faculty includes, but is not limited to: John "tavakididama" White, Pablo "The Most Interesting Man in the World" Cohen, Bradley "Sass" Hougham, David "Eroica Dynamite" Pacun, Frank "Keep It in the Family" Campos, Dave "The Wizard" Unland, Ed "Pianoforte" Swenson, Mark "Look at my pecs" Radice, Jeffrey "Hector Berlioz" Meyer, John "He's not so much a pianist as he is a state of mind" Stetch, etc.

The music school intentionally removed all of the vending machines some years ago because they realized their students would not leave the building otherwise.

The school of music is at its classiest during its annual Christmas concert, "Ford Fest." On this special day, the practice rooms transform into an open bar and opium den.

All in all, a utopia of musicality.

"Did you hear about the Ithaca College School of Music?"
"Yeah, it's so P-T-S-K!"

College music - what is it?

One of the three main conservatories in New York City, the other being the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. Smaller than its counterparts and criminally underfunded, Mannes has earned a reputation for having demanding theory and ear training curricula. While the quality of its students vary from moderate to abhorrently terrible, the kids come out knowing slightly more than the average conservatory student given that the school actually teaches the student something outside their instrument. Notable students and graduates include Frederica von Stade, Murray Perahia, George Rochberg, Myung-Whun Chung, and Lara St John, among others.

Mannes is currently under the ownership of The New School, a pretentious, poorly administered university system based in lower Manhattan that always succeeds at making itself look better than it actually is. Fortunately, Mannes is one of the more independent schools currently owned by The New School, even if it still has to bear the mark of the university system's name in its "proper", verbose title: "Mannes College The New School for Music"

An aspiring pianist from Afghanistan
Became a devout Byron Janis fan
Wrote he, β€œWho can learn me
To master my Czerny?”
Replied pianist Janis, β€œThe Mannes can.”

Violinist (applying for a job): "I hold a B.M. from the Mannes College of Music in violin performance."
Interviewer: "How do you feel this school has helped you as a performer?"
Violinist: "Well, I still sound like I did when I was a sophomore in high school, but at least now I can read in seven clefs!"

What does "college music" mean?

A college that will charge you a TON of money, which you'll be paying off the rest of your life, unless your parents are rich. You'll end up working part time as a musician IF you're lucky, and working a non-related job to create a decent income. Current Berklee students, please don't rate, you don't know what's waiting. I would have hated this when I was a current student or recent grad who didn't know the current prospects of an un-employed musician/anything related in this economy.

Yo man, but I went to Berklee College of Music !

The violinist got into Juilliard, but got rejected from Mannes College of Music.

The Techniques of Music classes at Mannes really kicked my ass...but thankfully now I can sightread 5 staffs at a time.

College music - meaning

The best music school on the face of the earth. It is located in Boston, MA. Not to be confused with the other Berkeley in California. Berklee in boston is spelt this way because it was founded by Lee Berk, and the name was just switched around to make "Berklee".

side note: there is an MIT (Mass. Institute of Technology) in boston, and another MIT (Musician's Institute of Technology) in California. So here's how it goes:

Berklee in Boston: Popular Music
Berkeley in Cali: Popular Gen Ed

MIT in Boston: Popular Gen Ed
MIT in Cali:Popular Music

Strange? yes.

Berklee kicks ass, juliard and miami can suck it.

College music - definition

Berklee College of Music is a music school in Boston, known for its top notch teachers and world class graduates.

It is also very overpriced and has very, very few females attending. Fortunately Boston Conservatory is close by which has a very low male population making for...well you know where I'm going with this. Also a very high percentage of students are metrosexual or asian, or both. Metrasian.

Extracurricular activities besides practicing or jamming can almost positively include smoking mad blunts and drinking 40s.

Over all an excellent college.

"Berklee College of Music is the only college where smoking pot improves your grades!" -John Mayer

College music

Term coined by Beavis and Butt-head, refers to music in the 80s and 90s that was somewhere between alternative and artsy-fartsy, usually involving pretentious lyrics, too-artistic camera shots, and whiny or disinterested vocals. This music evolved into Indie Rock.

From the show:

Pavement
The Flaming Lips
Violent Femmes
The Dead Milkmen
... and many others

Quotes:

Beavis says "Hey Butt-head those houses look fake" to which Butt Head replies "Yeah that's like the whole point of college music, to make the suburbs look bad."
