Definder - what does the word mean?

What is 20 years?

If you ever hear your teacher preface a speech with this sentence. You done fucked up. It is over. You are finished and will never see the light of day again. The heinous crime you have committed by blasting loud Indian music while the substitute was teaching would have catched up to you eventually. Now you must run hide and maybe even hide.

In my 20 years of teaching. I have never seen a more disrespectful class.

What does "20 years" mean?

A common mistake made by Brazilians speakers of English. In Portuguese, people "have" their ages.

How old are you, Neymar?
I have 20 years old.

20 years - what does it mean?

An awkward age where one is not legally suppose to drink, but one can buy cigs and super lotto tickets. This age is further iritating since it limits one's abilities to legally gamble. However, fake ID's that are well made can sometimes give entertainment relief.

Guy 1: Hey man let's take a road trip and party it up in Vegas.

Guy 2: I'm only 20 1/2 years old. Gotta a fake ID?

Guy 1: Got it covered bro.

Guy 2: cool.

20 years - slang

A satirical phrase in general to describe certain individuals in their twenties who display marked remnants of a teenager (even adolescent) lacking experience compared to older peers, and sensitive to any form of criticism that might reflect an inexperience. They often compensate the feeling of inadequacy by incorporating incomplete information into fact to demonstrate a sense of knowledge. Instability is frequent with a failure to adjust socially to the first stage of adulthood.

This form of apprehension is not uncommon, but the frequency by which it appears in an increasing number of people, makes it noticeable enough to supplement a characterization.

β€œI thought Mary’s speech tonight to be very 20-year-old.”

β€œIt’s possible my son is being taught by a group of 20-year-olds.”

β€œThe repairman gave me a 20-year-old’s explanation as to why it won’t work.”

20 years

the most pointless age ever. you may as well turn 19 two years in a row. there is absolutely nothing significant about this age except, perhaps, the commonly said "you're not a teen anymore!" ... big fucking deal. i still can't legally drink.

"happy birthday, kelsey!.. wow, 20 years old!.. you're not a.."
"shut the hell up."
"hey, now! only 365 more days until you can.."
"FUCK. YOU."

20 years

An ominous trend in American history, wherein each president elected into office during a year divisible by 20, starting with Abraham Lincoln, has suffered an assassination attempt. Some have been successful, as with Lincoln and John F. Kennedy, though most have failed.

George W. Bush, who was elected in 2000, may or may not have invoked this rule already. On May 10, 2005, in Tbilisi, Georgia (the country, not the American state), a man named Vladimir Arutinian threw a live grenade at W. Due to the handkerchief tied around it, however, it failed to detonate. Alternatively, the rule could have been invoked years earlier by a pretzel.

"When is someone going to invoke the 20 Year Rule again? It's getting close to crunch time, you know."
