What is straight edge?
Straight Edge is a personal choice that is not meant to be a joking matter. It is an oath that someone may make to themselves to not participate in recreational drug use, smoke, consume alcohol, or have promiscious sex. I think a true straight edge does it for themselves and doesn't ridicule others for not believing in the same view of this lifestyle.

Straight edge - what is it?
straight edge (sXe)consists of the 3 X's
X- no recreational drug use (includes caffeine- which is a stimulant drug; some will accept drugs such as codeine or morphine for medicinal purposes)
X- no alcohol (some go as far as no Ny-Quil or Day-Quil because they include alcohol)
X- no casual (it doesn't mean abstinence, it means that you won't have one-night stands, but will wait until you are in a commited relationship to have sex.)
People have associated sXe as gang affiliation, but it is a way of life such as vegetarianism or celebasy. it is a way of life that consists of not poisoning your body with ignorance and sustaining a healthy lifestyle.
i am straight edge and for all the people who think it is the "popular" thing to do, you're wrong, and should accept it as a good thing because atleast there will be a few less drug-addicts, alcoholics, or AIDS carriers coming to a town near you!!!!
What does "straight edge" mean?
You one day wake up to the realisation that the world around you has nothing more to offer, and the only way to achive something is to have a clear mind, a clear life, a target....you are straight edge

Straight edge - what does it mean?
1) The abstention from drinking, smoking, all the usual vices, in order to retain purity etc etc etc.
2) A lifestyle choice, followed from the moment one makes the life-changing decision, to the day they die. These followers of straight edge are the ones that command respect or at least acknowledgement for their choice.
3) The latest craze for all the really cool kids who think that by doing it, they transcend coolness itself into a realm that only enlightened ones can reach. They do this all just by painting Xs on their hands and not talking to anyone with un-painted hands.
4) A cool way of denying that you physically can't drink or smoke etc because you're too young.
1) Straight edge. Very noble and respectable when followed properly.
2) "That guy over there? He's straight edge, but he won't shove that fact in your face, 'cause he realises that it's his own choice. He's committed too, so all respect to him!"
3) "That guy over there? He's straight edge... though you can probably already tell that by either the sense of smug self-satisfaction written all over him, or by his thousand little ways of showing you that he's straight edge. He doesn't have a clue!"
4) "That guy over there? He's straight edge. He doesn't drink, smoke, do drugs or have sex. He doesn't even masturbate. He's 14... But by god is he straight edge!"

Most rock stars are definitely NOT straight edge.
Straight edge - definition
Straight Edge is basically a way of life that includes no drinking, no drugs, and so casual sex. Abbreviated SxE. It is not a religion or a gang. It is a choice that someone makes. However, not everyone who doesnt drink/do drugs/have casual sex is straight edge, and not all that say they are straight edge, are straight edge. People who are SxE might put black x's on their hands. yes, you can be friends with people who do these things. There are a few types of straight edge kids.
ex.
The true SxE kid - does not drink, does not have casual sex, and does not do drugs. Also, does not go around telling everyone he meets right away that he is SxE, when the time comes to bring it up, he does tell. Does not think himself better than others becasue he does not drink or do drungs or not have sex. Does not beat people up for smoking or drinking.
Asshole SxE kid - Abides by the 3 rules of SxE, but goes around thinking he is better than everyone, puts people down for it, and basically bugs the fuck out of people.
Scene/Fashioncore SxE Kid - Wears x's on his hands all the time, and wears a bandana around his mouth and nose all the time, usually has died black hair. Most of these kids are not actually SxE, hell, most of them dont even know the true meaning or SxE but say they are to get friends/be cool/fit in. They are the SxE trend kids, and give True SxE'rs a bad name. Becasue of these kids, most kids just think being SxE is wearing black x's and bandanas around your face.
Hardliner - Super SxE kids that usually are vegan, wont take drugs even for severe pain, drink caffeine, or do anything like that. There most defining trait ,however, is the fact that they beat the living shit out of people for smoking, drinking or doing drugs. They might see someone doing one of these things, not bothing them at all, get a bunch of their friends, and beat the shit out of one person with somewhere between 2-? people. These people sometimes kill the people they attack. They are the biggest threat to true SxE people. A lot of cops and other uninformed people, becasue of hardliners, believe SxE people to be a gang, and believe ever SxE kid will beat the shit out of someone smoking or drinking or something like that. They are hated by most SxE kids.
True Straight edge kid (when asked about drinking/drugs/sex) - "yeah, i dont do drugs, drink, or have casual sex. You do? ok, your choice man."
Asshole stright edge kid - Yeah im SxE and im fuckin better than you becasue of it, i dont poison myself and you do, your fuckin stupid as hell, i hate you all, go fucking burn yourself"
Scene/Fashioncore kid - (Wearing black x's on his hands and a black bandana over his face and his long died black hair) Yeah, Grr im SxE, im cool, wanna be my friend, im SxE, cmon im SxE you gotta like me, im cool." might also say that while drinking or smoking.
Hardliner (sees someone drinking or smoking, not bothering anyone, no one is in their range of 2nd hand smoke)
*goes and gets somewhere from usually 1 to 10 more hardliners then beats the hell out of the person drinking or smoking, some with brass knuckles or baseball bats* The beat up kid usually has to go to the hospital, and sometimes even dies
Straight edge - slang
If you're really straight edge, you don't need to go telling everyone about it, it's something you do for YOURSELF. 99% of the morons with X's on their hands are posers/scenesters obsessed with fashioncore.
Example: A lot of the girls on the "girls gone wild" commercials have big black X's on their hand but they're taking off their clothes for cash. How is that respecting their bodies?

The term originates from a song by "Minor Threat" putting forth the value of a clear mind and a healthy body.
Times as they are, there are now three kinds of sXe'rs.
1. Those who understand what it means. People who value clarity and wish to avoid altered states of perception, poisoning the body, or unsettling the mind. No drugs, some even avoid medicinal drugs as these can alter state of mind. No drinking to excess, as this can alter the mind and poison the body. No promiscuous sex, you got me on this one. These people are, 99% of the time, decent people who see their choices for what they are, choices, nothing more, nothing less.
2. Insecure gits. People who wish to place themselves on a self appointedly superior moral platform, then proceed to brag about how much better they are than everyone else. No drugs. No drink. No Promiscuous sex. No meat. No/very few friends, as few other than those who share their views can stand to be around them for more than ten minutes without driving a lit candle, wick first, into their eye, and injecting them with lighter fluid through the ear.
3. Hardliners. All the stupidity of number two, with knuckledusters. No drugs. No drink. No promiscuous sex. No meat 9 times out of ten. All the clarity with none of the intelligence.

A board, or piece of wood or metal, having one edge perfectly straight, used to ascertain whether a line is straight or a surface even, and for drawing straight lines.

Straight edge
Straight edge is basically living a clean life without drugs, drinking and casual sex. It's living a poison free and keeping yourself safe. It is a choice and it does not make you better or worse than anyone. We all make choices and some choose to be straight edge and some don't. Yes, it's true that some people will stop being sXe when they turn 21 but that is just another choice. Straight Edge is a way of life but has now been formed into a trend. Out there, there are true edgers.
