short for "straightedge." a term used by hardcore douchebags as an excuse to hide the real reason they don't drink or smoke: they're pussies. if you really were straightedge because you actually believed drinking smoking and sex were wrong, you wouldn't give it a name.

Straight edge refers to a way of life that began within the woods of Arizona whose minions abstain from evils such as alcohol, smoking, and other recreational drug use. There is considerable debate between these wood dwellers over what constitutes a straight edge lifestyle. Some adherents may also abstain from caffeine, psychiatric medication (scientology is an offshoot of straight edge), gummi bears, sugar, jaffa cakes, quality street, tea, biting your finger nails and eating them, scratching ones gentials, farting in the presence of others, fun & laughter, the records of Engelbert Humperdinck and promiscuity (however frequent masturbation is encouraged by some), or follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. It is generally understood that straight edged people will explode if they drink coffee.

Another word associated with self-proclaimed trendy "scene" kids who feel as if they're doing the world a favor by choosing to rub their lifestyle in everybody's faces. The "x" has absolutely no relative or necessary meaning to the term, but apparently it does. Fucking idiots.

SXe - definition
Straight Edge- a lifestyle choice that I knew about as a teenager in the 90's more or less pertaining to the abstinence from alcohol, drugs and meat.
sXe-When asked c. 1996 by then peers what I thought it meant, I replied: "it means sex." to which they snickered. Probably b/c it has the same letters as 'sex' and the big 'X' in the middle made me think of x rated. Apparently I never made the connection until now. I stand corrected. Thanks UD.

Another common misconception of Straight-Edge, is that it is tied to the Christian religion, which is not true. It has absolutely no connection to any religion of any kind.
It is simply a choice of lifestyle. It's not a weakness, nor is it a strength.
A true edger will respect all people, whether they are sXe or not.

sXe is an abreviation of straight edge, which, in short, means that you abstain from abusing drugs, alcohol and tobacco, from promiscuous sex and from anythign else that poisons your body.
it is NOT an abreviation of sexy.

Straightedge. It has the same basic principle (no drink, no drugs, no fuck) for all followers, but each person makes it their own. Some examples: some sXe people choose to be vegans or vegetarians, abstain from caffeine, save sex for marriage (as opposed to a serious, committed relationship). Straightedge has NOTHING to do with violence (in fact, most straightedgers discourage it) or religion (that's a personal belief). Some people say that taking medications is not straightedge, however, others will argue that sXe is all about taking care of yourself, and refusing legitimate medications is counter-productive to the general ideology.
Straightedge is a way to find unity with peers who have the same drug-free ideas as you, and many aspects differ from person to person.
