St. anger - what is it?
The most underrated Metallica album yet. Manny noobies consider this as nu-metal or hard rock when in fact, is just is pure simple metal. Not thrash metal, not speed metal, not power metal, just plain metal. It is in fact a very good album, even though of a different style from Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets or Kill 'Em All.

What does "st. anger" mean?
By far the most under rated album ever. Many people claim that Metallica sold out because they tried a different style. But I say to these people, listen to Kill Em' All, then listen Ride The Lightning. There is a definite difference between the two albums. Metallica has always been known to change their styles with each album. And that's a good thing. Bands need to evolve. If they sound exactly the same on every album, what's the point of owning every album. Metallica has never sold out with any album. Any true fan of Metallica would know this.
Person: Have you heard the last Metallica album St. Anger. I am a die hard fan of Metallica but this album sucks.
Me:Why did it suck.
Person: Because it was different from their other albums.
Me: And... Did Black Album sound anything like Kill Em' All.

byfar the worst album released by metal band Metallica. full of solo-less crappy songs such as: st. anger, frantic, ect. many people thought metallica was done following this piece of crap, untill death magnetic came out and raped their ears with awesome riffs and face melting solos.

Metallica's latest album, and by far, their most under-rated album so far. With a new style/sound that most people would consider a "mix" between Heavy Metal and Nu-Metal, which is in fact, plain Metal. The lyrics are focused on hate and other negative feelings.
In my personal opinion, the drums would've been a lot better like they were before, and solos should've been included. Not a bad album, although definitely not as good as other Metallica albums (Ride The Lightning, Master Of Puppets, ...And Justice For All).

Nu-metal with a faint wiff of Metallica in it. Sounds like it could have been so much better, but no matter what monseiur "critical thinker" says, it is still Metallica's worst album. I hate it. I shall beat it with my hating stick and boycott it, in hopes that other classic metal bands don't go in this direction, and that Hetfield claims some rip-off band sung it while they were busy making a kick-ass album, which they will release and trade for a returned copy of st. anger, which they shall burn.

St. anger
St. Anger is Metallica's latest album. While many regard it as it's worst album, it isn't that bad in the end. People that really hate it usually just listened to it for 2-3 seconds and then took the CD out and never put it in again. It is supposedly a return to Metallica's old days, featuring a heavier metal than the albums that came before it (specifically Load and Reload) mixed with nu-metal as people call it.
One of the most highly criticized points of the new album is the new drum sound of drummer Lars Ulrich. Some love it, others hate it. Try listening to it yourself.
Another point is the absence of Metallica's almost legendary guitarist (in my opinion), Kirk Hammet, with his incredible guitar solos.
The lyrics are mostly centered around hate. Almost every Metallica album has one argument it is centered on (example Ride the Lightning is centered on death, while Master of Puppets is centered on the military somewhat, and ...And Justice for All is centered on human rights and politics).
Some of the songs in it are actually bad. I personally hate "Sweet Amber".
Some are good, for example "The Unnamed Feeling" (but they ruined it with the stupid voice saying "been there before..." in my opinion).
An interesting case is "Some Kind of Monster". I believe it should have been an instrumental song, just like every one of Metallica's first 4 albums had one.
In short, St.Anger did actually lower the bar. But, after all, it is STILL Metallica. So don't diss it.

Probably Metallica's worst album. Being such a hardcore fan of the band I at least would like to say there are some okayish songs on the album, Some Kind of Monster probably being the best. Even when Metallica changed their style with Load and ReLoad they were still a kickass band, but their latest album was very poor to Metallica standards because they tried experimenting with nu-metal music. I don't believe Lars is the downfall though, I mean his drumming in St. Anger sounds pretty much the same in all the songs but all the songs sound the same anyways. It would make sense if they had recorded all the songs, one after another without really changing the guitar FX or drums, but it took them three years, but seeing the DVD named 'Some Kind of Monster' you can sort of see what problems they had making this album.
