What is short hills?
The richest place in the US with actual Indians and Chinese people. If you aren’t hot or seriously smart you have no place in this town. Don’t even think about going to the most famous thing about this town except for the bitchy attitude (the short hills mall) if you don’t have $2,500 dollars in your pocket. Everyone here flexes there money by sending their kids to one of the 20 private school with $80,000 dollars tuition that you have to be ultra smart to get into. But most parents just bribe the school with a shitload of money to get their kid in. If you haven’t been invited to at least 30 bar mitzvahs by the end of the year, you can consider yourself and unsocial prune and irrelevant. The bar mitzvahs usually end up with two kids getting caught in the girls bathroom hooking up. Since half the moms are friends, they will figure out all the shit in under an hour. If your parents are like every single parent in this rich-ass town who have high standards, you’ll be in deep shit once you get caught doing anything. The girls dress like they are fucking pornstars and don’t give a shit if they get hit on at the local Starbucks, where everything costs $20 and the line has more people in it than the amount of money the next town over has. All the girls plans for their future say hook up, lose their virginity, get a job, get fired, sleep, repeat.

What does "short hills" mean?
One of the richest towns in New Jersey, The East Coast, The United States, etc. Home to JAPs, jews, Posers, and possibly one black person. The public school is practically private and the houses are bigger than apartment buildings. The high school student parking lot contains nicer cars than the faculty's. Finals are not allowed until high school, SATs are always aced. "Punk" people are posers, "ghetto" people are expelled. Crime dosent exist so cops spend their time breaking up parties and "warning" people about using drugs. Girls shop at exclusive boutiques like Gotham, Manning's, Kids at Heart, and the Short Hills Mall. Guys customize their shoes and pop their "oh so ghetto" collars. Pride is taken in the losing football team and the horribly irritating cheerleaders. Summers are spent at camp and in the hamptons, winters in Aspen and the caribbian. In the 7th and 8th Grade Bar/Bat Mitzvahs take up the weekends. Roughly 100 are attended. In 10th grade the same number of Sweet Sixteens are held. Parents are lawyers, doctors, executives, investment bankers, etc. The bottom deciles of the graduating class of Millburn High still go to top 100 schools. Short hills - what does it mean?
Short Hills is just a normal town in New Jersey. Yes, it might be a rich town but it doesn't mean everyone that lives here is a snob. The school might be one of the top school and most kids go to the top 100 colleges from it but that is because the kids study hard and apply themselves. If you studied as hard as some of the kids here i know then u could be getting straight A's too. Also the mall might have every designer known to man but that doesnt mean thats the only place people shop. Right now in my closet i have no juicy or lacoste or solo or free people, most of my clothes are from target. And people in Millburn are just as rich as people in Short hills. Most kids here do not just live off there parents money. I have to work to earn money and my parents give me $10 a week for babysitting and doing chores around my house. Most people here are actually good people, but we definetly have our share of spoiled brats, but it doesn't mean everyone is horrible.

After seeing all of the negative press for Short Hills, I feel that, as a resident, there should be an unbiased, neutral opinion that contains fact, as opposed to fiction, about the town itself, not the people whom are targeted by these negative diatribes. Short Hills is one of the wealthiest towns in New Jersey. According to Forbes' 500 Most Expensive Zip Codes of 2006, Short Hills was ranked 5th overall in NJ behind Alpine, New Vernon, Mantoloking and Stone Harbor. The town also was ranked 66h overall, ahead of almost all of the affluent communities in Fairfield county, CT (Only Riverside, New Cannan and Greenwich placed higher). Many of the town's residents are Investment Bankers, Doctors, Laywers and members of other well-respected, fairly well paid professions. There are two majors draws to living in Short Hills. The first draw is the town's proximety to New York City. Along with Millburn, Summit, Madison, Chatham, Maplewood and South Orange, Short Hills acts as a Bedroom community for many commuters. All of the afforementioned towns are connected to NYC via the Morris and Essex Line on NJTransit and have direct service to New York City's Penn Station as well as Hoboken's train station, which provide access to NYC through the Path Train system and both the Financial District and Wall Street bound ferries. The other key reason why Short Hills has such drawing power is that the school system is considered to be one of the best in the nation, ranked 181st according to Newsweeks' 2006 top 1200 high schools publication. According to the same publication, when compared to other schools in New Jersey, the school system was ranked 6th. As a point of refference, Newsweeks' top 1200 list is based around the top 5% of public schools in the nation. Short Hills is also known for its mall, home to many of the upscale merchants that have residences on Fifth Avenue in NYC.

I've lived in shit hills my whole life so here's a bit about it. 7th grade is batmitzah season, where most kids are invited to about 100 throughout the year. costing between $80,000 and $150,000. the traditional turbulence dance at every mitzah. boys jump around in a circle yelling "fuck the police" or "we slay p*ssy". All the girls dress like they're 20 in Bebe dresses, push up bras and 6 inch heels. mostly everyone lives in giant mansions but there are some small houses. The famous short hills mall is where there is every designer brand and the Starbucks line is always long. the only sandwiches you get at the Millburn Deli is the Godfadda or Jay Ray. girls in elementary or middle school shop at Gotham and kids at heart. Kids go to sleepaway camp for 7 weeks leaving parents to go on trips or their beach houses. whether its the hamptons, aspen, or Boca Raton to see our grandparents, we are there. All dads commute in and out of the city everyday. with the japs, we do have caps (Christian American princesses) which we invented. Chinese and Indians move here for the schools. there are no black people. high schoolers have parties every weekend where there is pot and expensive vodka. They insta themselves drinking because parents dgaf. some people exaggerate it here just because they are jealous of he bubble that we live in. We will never know how the real world works because our parents will pay for our NYC apartment out of college and everything after that:)
Short Hills may have the worst reputation but residents don't mind the hate because they can buy your house and use it as their dog house:)

I live in short hills and I Love it. It is filled with beautiful mansions and the town is gorgeous. The school system is amazing. Most parents make a living by working in NYC in the corporate world or work as doctors or lawyers. The shopping places are very upscale and expensive and this town is famous for The Short Hills Mall. With major department stores and adorable boutiques. The kids all go to camp in the summer while their parents vacation in the hamptons or long beach island. The guys wear polos and pop the collar and try to be ghetto even thought they know they are not at all ghetto. Parties are crazy wether they are house parties where kids drink and smoke and use drugs and the cops who usually have nothing to do have to break it up. Then there are the Bar/Bat Mitzvahs which are always fun, extravagant and lavish. (Short Hills is filled with jews, most residents are jewish) As well as most sweet sixteen parties. Sports are a big deal in Short hills/Millburn and people get really crazy about it even though the teams aren't always so good. Most kids who live in millburn are called ghetto or poor even though Millburn is not at all poor but still not as nice as short hills. Short Hills is one of the most affluent and popular towns in NJ. It's basically a bubble.

Like Westport Short Hills is ultra-white and rich. There are more Jews in this town than Israel, and not a single black person. The parties here are as many as they are lame, and the cops, since nothing goes on, sit on their asses, eat donuts, and bust up parties like there's no tomorrow. Every kid in Short Hills thinks they're so punk it's ridiculous, and half the kids own a skateboard and don't even attempt an ollie. They just want to look cool.

I'm a tad shocked at some of the comments about Short Hills. I'll grant you that it's an affluent town but, that in and of itself isn't a crime. Like any other town there are pros and cons. Yes, it has it's share of spoiled brats. It also has a ot of great people.
As for the schools being so great..i'm not so sure. i went to millburn high and grew up in SH. the principal of millburn high got in trouble for having sex with a student, gym teacher arrested for getting head from a young boy, psych teacher arrested for dealing coke to students. it's the parents to whom education is important that give millburn high it's success rate..not the school. the same parents, kids and famlies that many of you have bashed on these pages. give credit where credit is due.
bust your ass to be successful and someday you too may be able to trade in your blue collar problems for the equal but different problems enjoyed by the residents of Short Hills.
ps. i would like to see the Millburn High cheer changed to something other than, "that's allright, that's ok, you'll all work for us someday"

A town in Essex County, New Jersey. Not everyone there is as rich and snobby as other entries might suggest! There actually are houses there that are not huge mansions. Not everyone has an automatic Ivy League acceptance and a car waiting for them in/after high school. Being wealthier is not a crime, and neither is having the best high school in the state. It's because the parents care enough to make the school better and the kids work hard. SAT scores aren't based on the town where you live—they're based on the answers that are given.
Not everything is handed to people here on a silver platter, they actually do th e work in med, law, and business schools to get the jobs that make them so affluent. It's not an accident that people there have high-paying jobs. There are people of other races/religions. NOT EVERYONE IS A JEW. Anyway, why do you feel the need to judge people on their religion? Sure, there are snobs but it's not because they're Jewish.
Please don't judge this town because it has a nice mall and a state championship-winning soccer team as well as other successful athletes. It reflects poorly on you.
