not to be cofused with pop rock with a punk influance, blink 182, good charlotte ect. pop-punk is simply punk rock with more of a melodic pop sound, like bad religion or the bouncing souls

Pop-punk - what is it?
A really shitty music genre that's still going strong in the 2000s. It was good in the 90s but bands like bad charlette,simple plan and new found glory had to ruin it. Its just pop-rock. The second wave of this crap is boys like girls,all time low, and we the kings. To play this music the lead singer has sound like a 5 year old boy, the guitars have to be very lite, isen't that cute?

What does "pop-punk" mean?
A more popular form of a Punkish type of Rock. It loses (most or all of) the additutde of Punk while keeping its 1 2 3 rhythm. Good Pop-Punk bands would be old Blink-182, Old Sum 41, American Hi-Fi, Zebrahead, and Motion City Soundtrack. Bad Pop-Punk bands would be new Sum 41, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus.
Pop-Punk was a style that was around in the 80's but made a bigger spring in the late 90's and early 21st century. Pushing away the horrible Madonna and Britney influenced techno which clouded up the 90's.

By the way to all you guys who say Punk was anti-mainstream it really wasn't. Because The Ramones and The Sex Pistols and The Clash were mainstream so how they be anti-mainstream?
Anyway more recently Pop-Punk has taken a turn to more emotional types of lyrics, usually from the point of view of a boy who is observing problems that a girl is having or problems he is having with a girl.

This bands were influenced by the skatepunk bands like Bad Religion, Nofx, Pennywise, etc. They made the songs catchier so it would become more listenable to the mainstream audience therefore more popular. That's where the name pop-punk comes from.
Being mainstream music has caused the rejection of this music by other punkrockers who are against the mainstream and corporate music.
Nowadays pop-punk is influating other bands to create new styles of music like rock-pop or new hardcore-pop better known to the audience as emo music

Bands such as New Found Glory, Sum 41, Good Charlotte, Yellowcard, Simple Plan and Fall Out Boy have refined pop punk into a form which stresses strong melody and varied rhythms. Lyrics would prety much be the same the only difference would be in the style of singing and also the music. PUNK rockers would tend to sing at a much fatster pace whereas POP-PUNK rockers are melodic and would tend to be slow and much more clearer.
***** One more very important thing, please DONOT listen to all these people in here trying to tell what Pop-Punk genre is all about as most of them donot know shyt about PUNK. They consider Bad Religion & NOFX Pop-Punk. I mean they are the Godfathers of hardcore PUNK ROCK and even a deaf person can tell they are most certainly not POP-PUNK. I had a good laugh when these so called 'smart people' tried to categorize NOFX and Bad Religion into Pop-Punk. Go listen to them first and then decide for yourself.
