What is Cobh?

Cobh (pronounced Cove) became the country's main emigration port following the Great Famine of 1846 - 1848 Following the visit of Queen Victoria in 1849, the town was renamed Queenstown but in 1921, it reverted to the old name of Cobh.Attractions in the town include St. Colman's Cathedral, a magnificent 19th century Gothic revival and home to the largest Carillon (49-bells), in Ireland and the UK. The Cathedral Spire overlooks the brightly painted town of Cobh and the inner islands of the harbour, Spike Island, renowned for its historical legacy and Fort and Haulbowline Island site of the oldest yacht club in the world, the Royal Cork Yacht Club (www.royalcork.com ) which was founded in 1720.The population of the Cobh area has increased greatly in recent times with large new housing estates established on the outskirts of the town. Cobh is gradually becoming a satellite town to the nearby Cork City, reflected in the commuter train service and the Rushbrooke–Passage car ferry.
The Port of Cork have announced that Cobh was awarded BEST PORT WELCOME 2010 and BEST DESTINATION EXPERIENCE 2010 in the World.
In the summer month liners visit Cobh on a weekly basis and on many of the weekends the town provide entertainment in the splendid 'promenade' for all the family.
Cobh is a beautiful town and the people are wonderful.

a town in cork, ireland.it is known to be a very rough place and full of knackers.
has a lot of council houses and a lot of poor people.in 2008 was named the dirtiest place in ireland.
theres a lot of crime there and everywhere you go you see knackers hanging out.
every night there are always fights in the town between the drinkers
