Chamorro - meaning

Micronesia: The islands of Kiribati, Guam, Nauru, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Palau, and the Federated States of Micronesia (Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae, all in the Caroline Islands).

The Chamorro people or Chamoru people are the indigenous people of the Mariana Islands, which include the American territory of Guam and the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in Micronesia. Today, significant Chamoru populations also exist in several U.S. states including Hawaii, California, Washington, Texas and Nevada. According to the 2000 Census, approximately 65,000 people of Chamoru ancestry live on Guam and another 19,000 live in the Northern Marianas. Another 93,000 live outside the Marianas ( in Hawaii and West/Pacific coast of USA ). The Chamoru are primarily of Austronesian stock.

Most Chamorros are Roman Catholic and few in the Marianas still maintain some customs and beliefs from the time before the first European conquests. Some residents of the Marianas will still ask permission from ancestral spirits before entering parts of jungles. Traditional healers called suruhanas are still greatly respected for their knowledge of herbal treatments and spirits. Before Spanish colonization, Chamoru life centered on one's clan. Today, large extended families remain central to life in the Marianas.

Are you "flip"

No im chamorro

Ok a "flip" would let you ask that question one more time but a "chamorro" is about to knock you out

Chamorros are good people just because they lost some of their culture due to spanish and ww2 effects doest mean that they are not islanders but they are islanders that have lost their way.

Chamorro - definition

1) Chamorros are the natives of The Marianas Islands.

2) Chamorro is also the native language of the Chamorro's

3) Chamorro's are Pacific Islanders from the Micronesian Region.

Chamorro's are not Filipinos and were not from The Philippines,so if any of you don't know the difference then you need to go back to school, and for the dumbasses who say were Hawaiian Wannabees, first you need to learn how to speak proper english before you post on here..Were not Hawaiian Wannabees, were Pacific Islanders who just happen to be interested in other Pacific Island Cultures besides our own,and if you don't like it then that's your problem.

Chamorro

An indigenous Pacific Ocean group and culture from the Mariana Islands. The Mariana Islands are politically divided between Guam and The Northern Mariana Islands. The Chamorros have been depicted as being Filipinos but this has proven to be untrue culturally and genetically. The Chamorros are a distinct cultural and linguistic group seperate from other Pacific Island groups, e.g. Hawai'ians, and Asian groups, e.g. Filipinos. The next closest language related to Chamorro is a "distant cousin" language from the Toraja Cluster of Celebes, Indonesia.

Chamorro is also spelled Chamoru.

A: Are you Guamanian or Chamorro?
B: I'm both.
A: How's that?
B: Guamanians are Chamorros from the island of Guam and not from the Northern Mariana Islands. If I were from the Northern Mariana Islands then I would be a Chamorro, but not a Guamanian.

Chamorro

Indigenous people to the lovely island of Guahan, or Guam for you outsiders. They're known for their awesome barbecue and unique finadene sauce. Although some think they're Filipino, THEY'RE NOT. Totally different ethnicity, totally different island. Chamorros are very hospitable, welcoming, and for some reason are very patriotic, despite the recent and ongoing conflict in regard to the upcoming Military build-up. They're definitely people you want on your side. They are very family oriented and over-protective for good reason. They are currently fighting for political identity, war reparations for WWII victims and veterans, and indigenous rights. They can be the most respectful, loving, and welcoming people but in extreme situations, the most feared.

Chamorros are very patriotic in that Guam has the highest enlistment rate in the US.
