White hats - what is it?
An asshole. A knee-jerk reactionary. A shaven simian among men. Easily identified by their penchant for wearing white, baseball-style hats, usually bearing logos of university sports teams or the New York Yankees. Often accesorizes with department store cologne and butter yellow polos. Can usually be spotted at frat parties, H&M, Hollister and trendy, meat-market nightclubs. While not every asshole is a white hat, every white hat is an asshole.

What does "white hats" mean?
An interesting species most often associated with the common frat boy. He is most easily identified by his wearing of a white baseball cap with his college/favorite sports team embroidered on it. Behaviors most often noted are drunkenness, brawling, and ridicule of all things that are not like them and their kind.
Two white hats began fighting in the middle of the street, outside of the sports bar, after one of them had looked at the other one'd girl.

a certain type of people who are usually college guys or recent college grads. they wear white hats embroidered with their favorite logo (most likely it is their college) or hollister surf co.
some characteristics of white hats are:
- always listen to same type of music. and it has to be approved by their friends and liked by the masses. example: dave mathews band, pearl jam, jack jackson
- when they come home for break they always hang out with their old friends from high school.
- they act the same way they did in high school. with quicker and easier access to beer (in most cases) they play beer pong and flip cup for hours
- they get dressed up to go to starbucks
- their usual attire includes jeans and a t-shirt underneath a buttoned-up shirt. and of course their white hat.
- frat boys
- most of their conversations usually start out with "hey did you go to that party last night?"
"i tried to keep the party low-key but a bunch of white hats showed up"
or
"did you see all those white hats in starbucks?"
or
"Just because you wear earth-tone hats, dan, doesn't make you less of a white hat"
White hats - slang
Whitehat was a word previously used to mean that they may use the same way, however they are still the "good guys", and this is no different.
A whitehat hacker is someone who discovers (or attempts) exploits for good use. OpenBSD users/programmers often tend to be whitehats, although still a large number of FreeBSD users/programmers may be whitehats. In comparision I would say more OpenBSD users/programmers are whitehats.
Often when a whitehat finds an exploit, he often informs people as needed. IE: FreeBSD security mail list, OpenBSD security mail list.
At the same time I would assume more Linux users are blackhats due to the large number of pinhead users while most Windows users tend to know even less and primarily stay out of the "game" (this is no game, like blackhats think it is, you just wait until they come upon a server that does remote logging).
Blackhats are often pinheads who have nothing better to do then attack people to prove how "1337" they are.
Many whitehats use OpenBSD.

A computer expert, usually a former hacker, who now uses his or her skills for legitimate causes.

Frat boy types other wise known as bros. This particular species of frat boy can be seen galavanting around college campuses or downtown office buildings. They are distinguishable by their trademark white baseball caps which contain offensive college names of school they did not go to like Fordham University (FU) and the University of South Carolina (Cocks). They are more than likely wearing their caps at sporting events or at a bar watching sporting events, probably drinking Busch Lite or if they are classy Miller Lite.
