Definder - what does the word mean?

What is wacker?

A person, who is in the Fire, EMS, or Police service, or one who badly wants to be apart of such service. A wacker always has the latest gear, the "coolest" shirts and plenty of stickers on his car. Wackers often overdoo everything, such as lights, sirens, or expensive equipement. These items are almost always paid out-of-pocket, as no organization can justify that much wasted spending. Wackers are most commonly between the agest of 14 and 30, and are usually trying to show off to others, how "cool" they are for being a Firefighter, EMT, Police officer, or for wanting to be one of the above. A Wacker can often be found with their radio turned way up, so that everyone can hear it from a mile radius, or sitting around their local headquarters trying to catch any scrap of action going on in any of the surrouding districts.

"Hey look at that kid with his saturn, he joined the fire department last week and now he has a lightbar and stickers all over it, what a wacker!!"

Wacker - definition

The Australian slang version of the English "wanker".

Slight difference in that wackers tend to be more boisterous than wankers. Wankers kind of like to do things sneakily, and probably harbour a fear that people are calling them wankers behind their backs.
Wackers, on the other hand, are oblivious to what people say about them and seem to even believe their own bullsh!t.

There are more Australian wackers than wankers, but believe me - we do have both kinds.

Did you hear Bush talking to those sailors on that battleship? Honestly, the wacker thought they were laughing WITH him.

Wacker - slang

This is not the Australian slang version of the English "wanker". Wanker literally means "masturbator" but all the same is used as a general insult to state that someone is not liked nor likeable. "He is a wanker" or "Don't be a wanker", "I'm not going to that bar again, they are all wankers in there"

"Wacker" is related in meaning to the word "Wacky" and also "wacked" - and means a bit crazy, a fool, an idiot. Although it is not a favourable term, it is more descriptive than an insult.

"Why did you phone her up again?" "I'd been drinking all day and was wacked off my head"

"Did you see him fall down the stairs yestederday while trying to show off to his mates?" "yeah, haha, what a wacker".

"Do you want to go base jumping this weekend?" "No way - You would have to be a wacker to do something like that!"
