What is the Bronx?
Correctly called 'The Bronx' or 'Da Bronx', once the farm of Jonas Bronk and the only New York City borough on the mainland. Home to many famous and talented people over the centuries. Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, for example came from the same neighborhood in the Bronx. Tony Curtis, Regis Phibin ,Billy Joel and many others grew up there. It has a rich history. Population is about 1.5M.

1)One of the 5 Boroughs of NYC, which is not widely known unless you've heard of JLo and know where she's from.
2) If you're from The Bronx, you know it's "The Bronx" not "Bronx"
3) If you're from The Bronx, you also understand and get annoyed when people have asked if you lived in the "ghetto" or if it's "scary" to live there.
4) Not all of The Bronx is like the parts people tend to hear about (South Bronx), there are places other than Riverdale or Fieldston that are safe suburbs.
5) Filled with mostly Italian, Irish, Spanish, or Black people.

What does "the Bronx" mean?
One of the five boroughs of NYC which was originally part of Westchester county in the 1800's til they made the subway connection from the Bronx to Manhattan. Home of Hip Hop music and Culture. Home of the Bronx Zoo, The Yankees, Botanical Gardens, Zulu Nation(originally the Black Spades) and birth place of John Gotti. The only borough which has "THE" in front of it's name.

A.K.A. "The BX" "The Boogie Down" "Hip Hop's home" Northern most borough in NYC (uptown) & only borough that isn't an island, poorest county in New York State. The BX went crazy hard in the 70's and 80's people were out of control! all over NYC...The BX has one of the world largest apartment complex, "Co-Op City" (largest in US) it has 35 high rise building ranging from 24 to 33 floors on 320 acres. For many years now more people from the Caribbean have been moving in to the BX...Home of The Yankees!, Fordham Univ, The Bronx Zoo and Botanical Gardens but, if people move out the Bronx a lot move north to Bridgeport, CT. Jennifer Lopez isn't exactly from the "rich" part of the Bronx, but Castle Hill isn't really the worst neighborhood either. It's between Soundview (where Amadou Diallo got shot 41 times) and Throgs Neck in the East Bronx.

The Bronx
The Bronx is really the only borough that hasn't been infected with that whole Giuliani-Bloomberg 'let's gentrify everything we get our hands on' disease. Although it does have Riverdale, Fieldston, and Throgs Neck, most of the rest of the Bronx is mad hood. It's a working-class place with fun, hood-ass muthafuckas who are down for whatever, but y'all better step correct because there is no tolerance for improper respect. If you disrespect, you WILL get your ass beat. Even white boys (esp. Albanians in Belmont) will set it hard.
I'm from Edenwald in the Bronx, which is the middle of nowhere. When I'm home, I smoke out in the street with impunity even though there a precint right down the street. If I did that shit anywhere in Brooklyn or Manhattan, I'd be sitting in county lockup for 36 hours until I got a hearing. A s long as you ain't hurting no one, no one's gonna give you shit. And if they do give you shit, beat that nigga till he leaks blood. Cause that muthafucka deserved it.
The Bronx
Mecca to high school kids in the 'burbs. A place they often pretend to be from even though they only lived there until they were like 5 and then moved to Westchester or Long Island. And if they stayed there til they were of at least middle school age, they probably went to private school but nevertheless think they are gangbangin'.
