What is postmortem objectification?

A major societal problem where individuals are no longer valued as people after they die and instead are valued by society and the government as property, financial resources, and or objects

An example of postmortem objectification is when grave robbery laws treat deceased people as property instead of people, which can be inferred from language used in the laws and whether the penalty for committing the crime is more similar to that areaโ€™s laws about abduction or theft.
