Khat - what is it?

A khat is a very asian cat. You'll usually see them running around the streets of Johor Bahru. They are very aggressive, steer clear of them.

Look at that khat over there, I think it's going to hurt us lah.

What does "khat" mean?

Khat is a plant with leaves that you chew to get energy and boost focus and at higher doses get a high. It's relaxing yet stimulating. Khat leaves contain mostly cathinone and a little cathine and it's mostly the cathinone (phenylpropanoneamine, 2-aminopropiophenone) that gives you energy with cathine contributing very little to the energy and the high. Khat is used to study similar to Adderall, Ritalin, Modafinil, Armodafinil, Flodafinil, Hydrafinil, Methiopropamine, Arecoline Hydrobromide, and Caffeine. Khat can be chewed freshly picked from the khat tree or brewed into a tea. The leaves must be used quickly, or it will all turn into cathine (phenylpropanolamine, D-Norpseudoephedrine) within 3 days of picking them. Khat is legal in some places like Ethiopia, Yemen, and South Africa, yet illegal in other places like the US and Canada. Khat releases dopamine and norepinephrine. Khat is like Caffeine, but stronger. Khat is nature's Adderall, though not nearly as strong. Khat is closer to Coffee than to Adderall, Ritalin, or Modafinil. The Khat plant needs less water than the Coffee plant and can withstand higher temperatures than the coffee plant. Khat loves the sunlight. If global warming continues, there will be no more coffee plants and people will have to legalize Khat as an alternative to Coffee, though Modafinil, Methiopropamine, Armodafinil, Propylhexedrine HCl, and Arecoline Hydrobromide are other alternatives to coffee.

Tony: I grew, picked, brewed, and drank Khat tea. Now I can study for my test and clean my room.

I picked and brewed fresh khat leaves. It gave me energy to study and do homework and clean. I got a nice high off of khat. Khat is the coffee of the future.

Khat - slang

Drug heavily used in some Middle-Eastern and African countries. Consumed either through chewing the leaf like coca-leaves or brewed as tea after being dried. Results in feeling of euphoria and increased concentration (used by many students for "studying" purposes). Resembles caffeine, but is illegal in the US. However, no one cares.

Khat

Khat is a stimulant with similar effects to amphetamine. It is a leaf which is chewed over a number of hours.

Chewing it can make people feel more alert and talkative.
It can also suppress the appetite.
Although it's a stimulant, many users report a feeling of calm if it's chewed over a few hours. Some describe it as being 'blissed out'.

Khat is not an illegal substance in the UK, but it is in many other countries.
