Dystopia - what does it mean?

A noun used in reference to many science fiction (sci-fi) books that involve topics like a perfect world. For example, it may involve the use of euthanasia (for killing) those who do not fit into the societies of the settings there. It may also be about a book with characters following a seemingly corrupted government in which orders people to give them their life partners (spouses), jobs, children, and more. It may talk about slaves that were born solely for work outside of the settings and disposed of after their work is over with in the world. Usually used as a new genre term or a category of fiction books.

"Did you read that book about a futuristic dystopia yet?"
"Yeah, pretty depressing. That boy got his whole genetic line in jeopardy because all of the identical boys were perfect and orderly except for him. He could have been euthanized and killed just because he didn't fit in. Too bad too sad, be actually dies at the end."
"Wait...what?"
"The government's crazy idea of a utopia is terrible in that book."
"Indeed, let's not even dwell on the topic of the already ruined world all that much."

Dystopia - meaning

It is a growing genre of literature pretty much because of the growing anxiety in the modern times that even the teenagers are affected. In this genre, teenagers struggle to live their own free ways in a very constricted, totalitarian, conservative, and sometimes post-apocalyptic world. Many of these struggles turn against them so bad that the impact greatly affects others of their same age. It has been read widely because plenty are aware of the horrible outcomes that anxiety, nowadays, may bring to us.

The main protagonists, as the word suggests, are almost entirely teenagers whose main goal, according to their nature, is to simply be free from anything. The main antagonist are their oppressors such as adults, totalitarian governments, and the society with diminished moral conducts and humanistic values. The latter is also the setting because it is the cage or the jail where teenagers longed for their freedom. The nature of this genre is violent most of the times and the content may be too obscure such as killing teenagers. In movies, they can be too disturbing to watch because of the violence set directly towards teens.

The Hunger Games trilogy, Insurgent, The Long Walk, Rage, Fahrenheit 451, The Giver, 1984, Lord of the Flies, Brave New World, Unwind, Battle Royale, and Human.4 are examples of Teenage Dystopia literature.

Dystopia - definition

The period of time after the advent of social media platforms when tens of millions of people weighed in on events that they did not personally take part in, and yet loudly expressed outrage over despite having no personal stake in the incident, often simply as a tactic to destroy a percieved political or cultural enemy, by calling for the banishing of the β€˜antagonist’ in their narrative from doing any public and private business.

Joe Biden suddenly found himself in the woke dystopia.

Dystopia - slang

Dystopia

By definition the total opposite of a utopia often caused by the complete collapse of an attempt at creating said utopia. The primary issue with utopia is that no two people can 100% agree on everything 100% of the time. The other and much bigger issue is that some tyrannical entity (individual or group) will take control and twist it to serve only them resulting in a societal hell and the suffering of others. Sir Thomas More wrote Utopia defining both Utopia and Dystopia (a term he had coined). George Orwell's novel 1984 and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World both show what happens in a dystopian society. The common traits are dehumanization, tyranny, ecological disasters, societal collapse, and the like.

After the Russians overthrew the Czar and the Aristocracy the Communists took over and promised a utopia only for it to become a dystopian nightmare where many millions suffered and died.

Dystopia

The opposite of utopia. What is really occuring in this world as we speak.

Increasing use of Big Brother spy technology, political corruption, uncontrollable population growth, and the Americanization of the world are all examples of dystopia.

Dystopia

A bogus utopia run on propaganda; ruled by a repressive government which breaks promises, dashes the hopes of its citizens and destroys wealth.

The X party promised to turn the country into a utopia, if elected. But all they did was create a dystopia by ruining the economy, and squander the nation's resources.
