Allotment - what does it mean?

(Simile.) Describes a badly overgrown ladygarden or punani in need of a lot of TLC. (And possibly an industrial-sized strimmer.)

"I pulled down her knickers, and she had a twat like Terry Waite's allotment! I've seen long-haired poodles with less hair than her!"

Allotment - meaning

Self-explanatory to Britishers in the 1990's, this description of unruly hair will puzzle the rest of us, so:
1. Terry Waite served as the Anglican Church's international diplomacy negotiator. In 1987, he was himself taken hostage in Lebanon and held mostly in solitary confinement until his release in 1991. He's a well-known public speaker now.
2. "Allotment" in Britain is an urban rented garden patch.
Hence, Terry Waite's allotment would be untended and weed-choked.
I haven't determined if Waite actually was an allotment holder at the time of his confinement.

The man on the bench had a red beard like Terry Waite's allotment.

Allotment - definition

A word improperly used by many. As no one wants to recognize that "alot" is a valid word (see David Horvitz definition in Urban Dictionary), most spell-checkers propose to change "alot" to "allot". Unknowingly users just accept the choice.
Next time your spell checker tells you "alot" is not correct, please "add" it to your dictionary.

"I love the UD site alot." After spell checking in Outlook, you end up with "I love the UD site allot."

Allotment

stupid way of saying "a lot"

John: wanna go for a drink?
Mike: i can't, dude, i'm allot busy

Allotment

Correct definition = distribute: administer or bestow, as in small portions.

Incorrect version: An illiterate way of spelling "a lot". The most common mistake however (very common unfortunetly) is "alot".

I'm no snooty English teacher or anything, but these particular mistakes drive me crazy! What is going on with education these days?

Correct example: Given as a task; "her allotted chores"

Incorrect example: "I liek that allot"
