What is War Of The Roses?

When one dude gives another dude a friendly hand-job as a form of thank you or kudos. This is not a sexual act by any means, more just a pleasnt gesture - similar to the tradition of giving of a box of Roses chocolates.

Nige: Bish helped me move house today, so I gave him a Box of Roses as a thank you.

Rusty: What a fantastic and totally non gay way of saying thank you! I bet Bish felt appreciated.

War Of The Roses - what is it?

Due to disputes between the United States and Britain over impressment of US Soldiers to the British Navy and the naval blockade by Britain on Napoleonic France aswell as disputes over the Northern Territories in Canada, America declared war on Britain.
During the course of the 3-year war, America won a series of naval battles, although failing to make an impression into British territory on land due to British aggression. The most prominent of American victories being those at York (Toronto) and after the war had ended officially, at the battle of New Orleans. British forces invading America lost the battle of Baltimore and succeeded to burn Washington DC (which was saved by a heavy rainstorm).
The territory Britain did capture was handed back after the war, as were the gains of America...

What a stupid pointless conflict.
And what happened to the blockade on France? It continued! And Britain smashed the French Navy at the Battle of Trafalgar and pummeled Napoleon at Waterloo, with the help of the faithful Prussians. Thanks Germany, we know who our REAL friends are!

Just kidding, thankfully now Anglo-American relations are just peachy.

1) The name of a science-fiction radio series created by Orson Welles, that was infamous because it made people believe there was an alien invasion happening.
2) The name of a movie about aliens trying to invade Earth.
3) The name of a movie that will be released in 2005 starring Tom Cruise about aliens who try to take over Earth.
4) The name of a series that ran for two seasons in the late 1980's to early 1990's, about a government scientist who finds out aliens have come back to recapture the Earth, and along with a Navajo military colonel named Ironhorse, his computer hacker buddy Norton, and his partner Suzanne, they try to stop the aliens. Went all to hell in the second season when the producers killed off half the cast, (including all the visible minorities!) and added more T&A in order to get more ratings.

From the 1988 TV series:

Harrison: brainwashed "We've got to stop hurting the aliens!"
Ironhorse: "Hurting the aliens? I don't remember invading their planet!"

The Art of War (Chinese: 孫子兵法; pinyin: Sūnzĭ bīngfǎ) is an ancient Chinese military treatise attributed to Sun Tzu, a high-ranking military general, strategist and tactician. The text is composed of 13 chapters, each of which is devoted to one aspect of warfare. It is commonly known to be the definitive work on military strategy and tactics of its time. It has been the most famous and influential of China's Seven Military Classics, and "for the last two thousand years it remained the most important military treatise in Asia, where even the common people knew it by name." It has had an influence on Eastern and Western military thinking, business tactics, legal strategy and beyond.

The book was first translated into the French language in 1772 by French Jesuit Jean Joseph Marie Amiot and a partial translation into English was attempted by British officer Everard Ferguson Calthrop in 1905. The first annotated English language translation was completed and published by Lionel Giles in 1910. Leaders as diverse as Mao Zedong, General Vo Nguyen Giap, General Douglas MacArthur and leaders of Imperial Japan have drawn inspiration from the work.

The Art of War has been applied to many fields well outside of the military. Much of the text is about how to fight wars without actually having to do battle: it gives tips on how to outsmart one's opponent so that physical battle is not necessary. As such, it has found application as a training guide for many competitive endeavors that do not involve actual combat.

There are business books applying its lessons to office politics and corporate strategy. Many Japanese companies make the book required reading for their key executives. The book is also popular among Western business management, who have turned to it for inspiration and advice on how to succeed in competitive business situations. It has also been applied to the field of education.

The Art of War has been the subject of law books and legal articles on the trial process, including negotiation tactics and trial strategy.

War Of The Roses

War of the Worlds was originally a Novel written by H.G. Wells in 1898. It is basically about how the Martians invade the Earth. They use highly advanced technology (advanced for 1898) to crush all human resistance in their path. They are initially successful and use human blood to feed their "red weed" which was plentiful on Mars before the planet started "dying" (motivation for Martians to invade). Eventually, however, the Martians die off when micro organisms make them ill as they are not immune to them (it was described that the Martians had eradicated all mirobes on Mars).

It should be noted that there is a lot of political and social commentary. For example: In the Novel Martians are being compared to the then all mighty British Empire. It also comments on Evolution (comparing the Martians to Humans), and the treatment of "inferior creatures" (it compares the Martians' treatment of Humans to the "Superior Humans'" treatment of animals and "inferior races").

Also, the Novel Wells descibed the possible ways Chemical weapons could be deployed and predicted the coming of Lasers (the Heat-Rays).

War of the Worlds is one of the greatest science fiction novels of all time.

It is interesting to note that the Martians had failed to conquer more than the southern part of England (they only sent ten "space canisters" with only ten "fighting machines").
