What is Toshiba's?
Short for Tokyo Shibaura Electric Co., Ltd.
A Japanese technology company founded in 1939 through the merger of Shibaura Seisakusho (established in 1875 as Tanaka Seisakusho) and Tokyo Denki (established in 1890 as Hakunetsusha).
Toshiba is known for:
1. Having used a fancy logo from 1950 to 1969 (better known as the Umbrella Mark);
2. The development of the DVD (a format that replaced VHS cassette tapes); and…
3. Being, along with Seagate and Western Digital, one of the only three hard disk drive manufacturers still in business today (it absorbed Fujitsu's manufacturing division).
