The most notorious punk band of all time. Started in 1976, the Sex Pistols' original lineup consisted of Johnny Rotten(b. John Lydon) on vocals, Glen Matlock on bass, Steve Jones and Paul Cook. The one and only time they were on national television, they swore 8 times. Fuck, 4 times. Shit, 3 times. Bastard, once. Their first release was God Save The Queen. Upon being released, it was banned from the majority of record stores in England. Their next release was Anarchy In The U.K. The Sex Pistols were the most publicized band in history because of all that circulated around Sid Vicious.

Greatest punk band of all time. Fronted by John Lydon/Johnny Rotten, final lineup also consisted of Sid Vicious, Steve Jones, and Paul Cook. Greatest hit was most definitely "Anarchy in the UK", but "Bodies" and "Seventeen", often overlooked, are overall better songs.
The Sex Pistols may not have invented punk, but they redefined it. No future for you.

An amazing 70s punk band thats members included John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten, the singer - an artistic, yet brilliant, anarchist who was all about having his own style; Steve Jones, the guitarist - an ex-burglar who only cared about getting laid; Paul Cook, the drummer - a timid longtime friend of Steve Jones; and Glenn Matlock, the bassist - a mama's boy Beatles fan. Matlock was eventually replaced with Rotten's old friend and the Sex Pistols' biggest fan John Simon Ritchie also known as Sid Vicious. Vicious's bass skills were limited, because he taught himself one night while on speed, playing with a Ramones album. After meeting Nancy Spungeon, Vicious became a herion addict, and after Nancy's murder, Vicious was to blame, although most believe Vicious was innocent. Vicious died of an overdose just several months after Nancy's murder.

an early British Punk Band, Not the 1st however, the Ramones were the 1st proper punk band, many before the Ramones and Sex Pistols set the aesthetic for punk (bands like the Stooges) but the Sex Pistols really brought punk rock to the United Kingdom. Possibly the british band with the most banned songs/albums ever. Their 1st single "Anarchy in the UK" is possibly one of the best punk songs. Ever. and the controversial "God save the Queen" remains a punk classic.
