Definder - what does the word mean?

What is Sambo?

The Term "Sambos" was coind by historian Stanley Elkins. It's original meaning was 'society of helpless dependants'. The term was used to explain how European settlers had conditioned African Slaves to be woefully accepting of their shitty conditions.
The term also applies to the conditions of all people who live in America....helplessly dependent.

By destroying an individuals sense of heritige, feeding them fear, and giving a false sense of security through consumerism you can condition an entire nation to become Sambos.

Sambo - what is it?

AS USED IN HIP-HOP/URBAN SLANG:
A sambo is a coward and a turncoat. A sambo with backdown from a fight. A sambo will steal. A sambo will stab you in the back.

The term has many supposed origins, the most common coming either from the story of Little Black Sambo or the British conquest of India. Many cite the slavery days of the U.S.A., in which the term is used in the same fashion as the Indian source. The "black faces" of early U.S. entertainment are often called sambos.

A.K.A. a house nigger (as in Malcolm X's contrast of the house nigger versus the field nigger).

A.K.A. "Uncle Tom"

Turn a sambo into a soldier with just one line... - Immortal Technique (in references to rappers in general)

I heard this kid, Sambo, was a snake - a rat - stole shit and then ran away to another state... - GM Grimm (in reference to MF DOOM)

What does "Sambo" mean?

An international man of mystery. Where is he from? Nobody knows. How many languages does he speak? Impossible to count them all. He's a modern nomad--you never know when or where you'll cross paths. But one thing is certain, the attraction will be instantaneous. Tall, dark, handsome, and smart as a whip; be mindful of your drooling. And as for matters of the heart, there too he is skilled. A few kind words, a smile, and that gaze, and you'll want to tell him every secret you've ever kept. He's a rare bird, this one. Should you ever experience him firsthand, count yourself one lucky girl!

Me: "I just had the strangest dream...I could've sworn I met a Sambo. But that's impossible. Sambos are urban legend..."

Sambo: "Everything is going to be okay. You've just fainted..."

Sambo - meaning

Although often used as a derogatory term, Sambo is now used in some circles and mini-cultures to describe someone playing up to a stereotype or "playin' the fool" to hide intelligent and revolutionary motives from potential threats. The term comes from the 19th century "Sambo" stereotype of black slaves as dumb and oblivious. Slaves often used this as a cover to secretly sabotage plantation tools and as an excuse to work slowly and attempt to slowly chip away at their master's system when open revolution was not an option.

2Pac was always playin' the Sambo in his interviews despite his intelligent rap.

Sambo - definition

Australian slang for sandwich.

Another example how Aussies like to shorten everything. In this case we save ourselves three letters each time. In the outback, three letters can be the difference between life and death.

Sambo

Sambo was invented by the Soviets during the time just after the Revolution in Russia, and was seen as an example of the Socialist dream to reinvent traditional arts on a scientific model. Sambo is similar in many ways to Judo and Jujutsu, but is also said to incorporate traditional Russian wrestling techniques as well. The man generally credited with teaching and introducing Sambo in Russia was Vasili Oschepkov, who was also one of the first Russians to learn Judo. Oschepkov taught these techniques to Russian Special Forces and Commandos during the period between the two World Wars.

The name β€œSambo” derives from an acronym in Russian which means β€œcombat without weapons.” These techniques were used by soldiers initially and gradually formed a sport sanctioned by the Soviet Union as beneficial to the people’s movement and a shining example of Socialist advances. The Soviets promoted the sport Sambo through Eastern Block sporting events in the manner that Judo was being practiced competitively internationally. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the sport retained its popularity and tournaments in Russia, and began to have more of an international influence, as its teachers were then able to freely travel and teach Sambo abroad. Sambo is one of only four forms of wrestling practiced in international competitions, the others being Freestyle Wrestling, Greco Roman Wrestling, and Judo. Sambo was also used by elite Soviet troops and KGB agents in the Cold War for hand to hand combat techniques.

Sambo

Archetypal Negro: Apologetic and subservient, yet will pilfer whenever unsupervised. He schemes constantly, but lacking cleverness, always ends up in trouble when his half-baked plans fail - hence the apologetic nature.

Counterpart of Buck

"Some tell me 'tis a burnin' shame
To make the naygers fight,
And that the trade of bein' kilt
Belongs but to the white.
But as for me, upon my soul!
So lib'ral are we here,
I'll let Sambo be shot instead of myself
On ev'ry day in the year."
