The first attribute of skinny love and the first step towards its actualization is the lack of nourishment. In a song titled

never true but needed to move on (Hub, 2013). While relationships were meant to establish the connection between two persons, it does not necessarily imply that all relationships work as it sometimes tend to fail due to lack of nourishment. be it lies, deceits, pretentions or hatred. The lack of nourishment impedes the growth of what once sustained it, love.

Skinny love - what is it?
There are two ways to define 'Skinny Love', but both talk about romantic relationships.
The first is used to describe a type of relationship between two people that are very in love with each other, or are crushing big time on the other; but are far to embarrassed to express their feelings. The relationship is 'skinny' because they have yet to come out and explain their true feelings. There is no communication, there for it's not even really a 'relationship'.
The second is to describe a similar thing, but instead of no communication, the relationship lacks love. It is where two people are dating just for the sake of dating, the sake of being with someone. To fill that empty void, to give them something to do. They do not actually love each other.

Samatha: Aw how sweet! Jimmy and Kira look so cute together. It must be true love!
Kira's friend: Yeah, but they are always too shy to tell each other that they love them. It's skinny love.

Skinny love - meaning
a bit different to the typical definition of skinny love but still a similar construct.
When a relationship that was once filled with love and laughter ends due to no one's fault. The two involved still have immense love for one another, and care so deeply (usually one more than the other but not always). They still keep each other in their lives platonically, but when people see them out together no one would guess they broke up by the way they interact with one another and look at each other. They pretend they are over each other, and the romantic love is gone but they both know that's not true. The friendship always ends tho, in one of two ways. most commonly they go down their separate paths after trying so hard to keep their friendship, or the more unlikely, one of the two is brave enough to fight for their relationship, however, no one is usually brave enough and it ends.
friend: I want what you and Griffin have, the way you guys look at each other is everything
me: Actually Griffin and I broke up about a month ago
friend: WHAT?? what happened?? are you okay?? I saw you guys together yesterday! I saw the way you looked at each other. Theres no way.
me: no... I'm not okay, but we will be. we still love and care for each other.. it just wasn't working between us... so we broke up.. we are friends.. but its a kind of skinny love now.
friend: oh, be careful, I heard those never work well.
me: I know... but he's worth it.
Skinny love - definition
when two people like each other a lot, but have no chance of being together. This is because there is nothing that can connect these two people, and they are too shy to talk about that topic/ to talk to each other at all.
Those two have been crushing on each other for a really long time. Nothing will ever happen because there's only skinny love between them.

When you're in a relationship because you need to be, but that's not necessarily why you should be in a relationship. And that's skinny; it doesn't have weight. Skinny love doesn't have a chance because it's not nourished.
