An event involving copious amounts of fail. Everything goes completely wrong and any attempts to fix it only result in making it worse thus leading to a cataclysmic disaster. Almost always caused by gross incompetence and/or a person with "mentally retarded" IQ classification as defined by the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scales 1981 Classification.

Girls often refer to there nights as shit shows to help exaggerate the fact they only had two drinks and want an excuse to fuck brad the dickhead down the hall. The easiest way to tell someone is new to partying is by them referreing to a night as a shit show after 2006.
