What is deft?
A phrase written hastily on a piece of plywood, the floor of a hastily constructed drainage pipe house. My friend asked me to read the phrase. I did and it was awesome, and we used it for the next 10 years, mainly to confuse people, as we would randomly say the phrase in conversation. Shortly after the day it was written, my friend "translated" the phrase. The only word I now recall was "moycon" it translated as "marihuana"

What does "deft" mean?
a. particularly inept activity or behavior
b. supremely clumsy or uncoordinated

The act or state of being both dextrous and bumbling at the same time, or in close succession; performing a blunder, immediately followed by an impressive act of agility.

Pun or mondegreen for death-defying.
Consider that "death-defying" is an adjective for a stunt or action that should kill you, but you escape (defy) death.
Deft: skilled in movement, especially of the hands.
Defy: oppose, resist, challenge, or refuse to submit.
You can see why "deft defying" doesn't make much sense. Taken literally, "deft defying" could be used to describe someone that is skilled at opposition or physical resistance, as in "defying deftly".
If hyphenated to become an adjective, "deft-defying" could be used to describe someone either unskilled on purpose, or should be skilled and is not.
