What is dark pop?
Pop generally is feel good music, where as dark pop makes you uncomfortable. You can still feel good with certain lyrics of dark pop though. You can’t really consider dark pop mainstream because of its rawness, but it still can maintain a catchy hook/chorus and appeal to a certain market.
The weeknd can be considered dark pop sometimes because of his under tones but also his steamy lyrics or hard hitting lines which some mainstream audiences may find too graphic, but isnt directly R&B.
Lil peep, lil tracy, xxxtentacion, lil clair and Juice Wrld have also made dark pop songs before.

evanescens and avril lavinge are perfects examples. the chick of evanescens thinks she is pretty bad, but she is not someone gotta tell her tha she is a hot chick wearing dark clothes and singing stupids lyrics with a nice voice as the pop music.

What does "dark pop" mean?
A different version of pop music which focuses on being dark and grim rather than being happy and uplifting.
One of the most notable dark pop artists is synthpop band Depeche Mode. Chief songwriter Martin Gore stated that he feels that more sad and depressing lyrical themes are more realistic, whereas he finds happy songs fake and unrealistic (at the same time, he also asserts that their music contains an element of hope).

The music usually conveys darker and somber lyrics but still incorporating the rhythm and beat of pop music.
