Well, originally the word "punany" or "punani" was used in India -- its in the Kama Sutra -- to describe the female sex organ.
Indian laborers were used to build roads in Jamaica and the Caribbean during the 1930's, 40's and 50's so a lot of Indian slang made its way into the Jamaican vernacular.
There are literally thousands of Jamaican dancehall records glorifying the punany....probably rivaled only by ganja songs. Ganja is also an Indian-based word.
A Native Hawaiian Poetic Term written in the Native Hawaiian Grammar (Adjective-Noun). In English you say "Big Car". The word Big="Nui"; Car="Ka'a". So its spoken as Ka'a Nui, or literally "Car Big"
The Hawaiian Language was a very Indirect Language For example, someone talking in normal conversation or in song may refer to the "Wind" as meaning a gentle touch from a lover; "beautiful flower" may be a beautiful person or lover, "Rain" as passion, love making, or sorrow. Speaking directly was considered vulgar & lewd.
People often confuse PuaNani with Punani. Pua Nani means pretty flower, Pua=Flower; Nani=Pretty. Pua Nani is almost always used to refery to a lover, and would not be used for vagina.
The Hawaiian Conch Shell or "PÅ«" has a bright pink inner fold area which resembles the Vulva. PÅ« Nani is literally "Conch Pretty", in English as "Pretty Conch". The age of its usage is a point of debate. Most Native Hawaiian scholars do not believe it was used in Ancient Hawaiian Culture to refer directly to the Vagina, as that was still too direct & vulgar, in conflict with how communication was done. Punani was brought into use after first Contact with Europeans, who would also not have spoken in direct reference to a females vulva, and so was likely first brought into use in the fairly recent past.
"It's Friday Night, we good to go. Friday night Punani Patrol" is a direct and vulgar reference to going out cruising on a Friday Night, and trying to get laid, which is directly from modern American Culture.
"Last night, in the rain, through our warm caresses, sweetly lingering the memory of the pretty Conch I discovered." is more in line with Native Hawaiian Usage and how Native Hawaiians would speak, though, still, most Scholars would disagree to this term being used, as its too directly perverse, and lacks the Profound Romanticism that Ancient Hawaiians were known for.
1. Her punani was the tightest that I had ever fucked.
2. There were tons of punani hanging around the club last night.
3. I haven't had punani for almost three months.
I first heard the word Punany from a young Jamaican man at Howard University. It sounded like such a beautiful word for female genitalia, I adopted it for my Poetry project in 1995. "The Punany Poets" celebrate female sexuality and promote safer sex andsexual empowerment through erotic literature and theatrics.
The Punany Poets are featured on HBO Real Sex 24 and 26 demonstrating Punany theater. "Punany Dream" (performed in the segment) is a fantasy piece about a lonely house wife who masturbates while her hard working husband is away at work.
One of several Jamaican words for vagina. Pronounced puh-naah-nee
This word was popularized by Jamaican immigrants in North America and England.
The word itself reached widespread popularity in Jamaica during the 80s with such dancehall songs as AdmiralBailey's "Gimmie Punany" and Shabba Ranks' "Love Punany Bad".
Many Jamaicans accredit the Indians with creating this term, therefore it is worthwhile looking at a possible derivation from Hindi / Bhojpuri which most of the Indians that came as indentured servants to Jamaica spoke. The word "phunni" or "phunno" is a word in Hindi for a boy's penis. (the word puny is also used in Jamaica to mean vagina). An equivalent term in Hindi is "nuuni". Putting these two terms together gives phunninuuni or phunnonuuni. Punany would be a simplification of that pronunciation. It is possible that the Hindi speakers coming to Jamaica began to use this term not only for a boy's penis but also for the vagina or that jamaicans of African decent adopted the word as a word for vagina since it already referred to small genitalia.
