What does "Power Metal" mean?

A form of metal. Power Metal takes its roots from 80's metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Manowar, and Dio. Power Metal usually employs the use of guitar and vocal harmonies, with the vocals in almost every case being sung cleanly (one excpetion is Demoniac, which is Blackened Power). Drummers in this genre must be very adept with double-bass pedals, for they are almost constantly using them.
Being a very melodic style of metal, Power Metal is very intricate and difficult to write. It is one of the most difficult genres of metal to play, with Progressive (and Neoclassical) being possibly more difficult.
Lyrics commonly found in Power Metal are based around mythology, elves, war, greed, weaponry (most commonly swords), brotherhood, horses, magic, demons, dragons, and other fantasy-based topics. This makes Power Metal a perfect choice for D&D players (sadly, I am one) and people who enjoy fantasy novels.

Other bands play, Manowar KILLS!

Power Metal - what does it mean?

Power Metal is the description for today's "true heavy metal" sound. Power Metal bands are always guitar driven, with keyboards rarely making much of an appearance. The vocals are of the clean sounding variety, and usually feature very powerful, talented vocalists who can really reach the upper ranges of the vocal spectrum.

Generally, the songs are fast paced, and employ fantasy themes including (but not limited to) dragons, gladiators, warriors, valhalla, Lord of the Rings, polished steel weapons, and generally conceptual themes that deal with very "manly" concepts, at least in a historical sense. You will rarely find songs about love, sadness, or failure.

Power Metal is very uplifting, powerful music, that appeals to people who like to get inspiration from their tunes. Catchy, epic, and generally enjoyable as hell, Power Metal is a great genre that, regrettably, far too few people know about.

Lost Horizon is the finest example of power metal in the world today.

Power Metal - meaning

A style of music that is dominated by wizards and warriors. And lonely stinky ass metalheads. This music should not be enjoyed by anyone that has more than 3 friends, or without the mental capacity of someone in an insane asylum.

People who listen to this style of music generally believe they are living in the middle ages. Thus aren't suited to be living among normal members of society.

Heil satan

Dude. I'm shredding the gnar mad hard while jamming to RHAPSODY OF FIRE!!!!

I hate black people, they're not metal.

Heil hitler.

I like dragons more than people.

Power Metal is EPIC!

Power Metal - definition

Fast guitar and drumming, but the singer is usually talking about something stupid as hell (i.e. swords and dragons). Josh really likes it.

Early bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Metal Church, Savatage, Jag Panzer, and Manowar influenced it.
"Popular" Power metal bands today would include Symphony X, Dragonforce, and Rhapsody.

"Flies to where old dragons are lying
the cry for the triumph for my magic sword
Burns the pride of my mighty conscience
while rises the sceptre of our wise lord
So thunder and storm, the rage of the sword the fury of my war
The axe of the dwarf, the blood on the stone the scream for the eternal"
-Dragonforces "Triumph for My Magic Steel"

Power Metal

A relatively modern style of Metal, inspired by classic legends like Iron Maiden and Europe.

It is characterised by guitar play that is quite simple (usually power chords) during most of the song, which gets extremely fast and complex during the intro, solo, and outro. Apart from the guitarist, a lot is expected from the vocalist, who has to reach extremely high notes, and have an immense vocal range. The drum beat is usually repetitive, but insanely fast.

Great power metal bands include Manowar, Altaria, Gorgoroth, Dragonforce, and perhaps the best of them all: Sonata Arctica.

Lyrics in these songs often deal with fantasy, war, and the medieval/renaissance age. They have no hidden, deeper message, but with the amazng music they're set to, no one really cares. An exception is Sonata Arctica, who have the running theme of love and loss.

Dragonforce, Sonata Arctica and Manowar are all great power metal bands. it's a shame they don't get the attention they deserve.

Power Metal

One word:Power metal(okay, technically two). This is used to describe the speedy, melodic sub-genre of metal originally known as "true" metal to the cool people that made it. Sadly, power metal is very very somewhat very misunderstood by a majority of metalheads, but just know it's actually pretty cool. Btw I personally think Dragon Force and Hammerfall are where it's at (may be biased because they got me into power metal). Basically, it may not the metal you're used to, but that doesn't make it bad at all; it might just be better. Plus, power metal musicians should be given more credit considering that one song can literally be all solos.

Overall power metal breaks through the usual and barely lives up to its stereotype of being cheesy and lame. After all, I should know, I am and have always been a huge Metallica/thrash metal/heavy metal fan. πŸ˜†Hechyea to all metal.

I want to listen to power metal today, and some other random sub-genre of metal some other time.
Power metal can be cool, just chill
