Pit bull - what is it?
Originally: A shortened name for the American Pit Bull Terrier
Today: A term used by the media to label all bully breeds and any mixes of these breeds. It is also used by backyard breeders who have no other intention than to make money or produce fighting dogs or guard dogs.
'Pit Bull' is the only term commonly used to report these attacks. It is often used many times and the dogs is often not an actual American Pit Bull Terrier.
What does "Pit bull" mean?
Not an actual breed of dog, but a category containing the American Pit Bull Terrier, the American Staffordshire Terrier, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. However, it's a term used by the media to describe any dog that shares the same physical characteristics of the above breeds, including the American Bulldog, Argentine Dogo, Boxer, etc.
Because of the wide range of breeds called 'pit bulls', people have an unclear perception of what they actually are. Any mixed breed that looks like an APBT is also often called a 'pit bull'.
The APBT, Amstaff, and Staffy Bull are all labeled as 'pit bulls' by the media.
Pit bull - what does it mean?
1. A slang term used by the media for mixed breed dogs containing bulldog background or dogs in the "bully" group which include american bulldog, american pitbull terrier, staffordshire terrier, and the bull terrier. By calling these dogs pitbulls they can get more publicity.
2. American pitbull terrier registered by the U.K.C.
Staffordshire terrier if registered with the A.K.C. These are the real pitbulls.

Idiotic pit bull apologists will claim that whenever a pit bull kills someone, it's the owner's fault, saying "Uhhhh it's not the dog itself that's shitty, the dogs known for attacking just had bad owners!". While pit bulls who are trained well usually exhibit a loving personality, many of those same pit bulls have been known to be angered by small things and attack someone. Remember, these dogs were bred to fight. All it takes is to accidentally step on their tail to have them maul your newborn son to death. These dogs are a favorite of ghetto low-lifes. I personally think that there should be a ban on pit bulls in the United States.
