What is Gangster?
A gangster (also referred to as "mobster") is usually not what American society thinks they are. Gangsters are usually white or heavily Italian, best known as the mafia. Black gang members in the United States are usually wannabes who don't speak correctly and usually take 5 people to beat up one guy.

1.A man in a group of organized crime, known to wear badass suits with badass ties and even more badass fedoras, and carry around M1 Thompsons. They deal with drugs, contract killings and even prostitution. Their contracted kills are called "hits."
2. A whiny person who was obviously touched at a young age who wears bandannas over their faces. The usual gangster wears a jersey and baggy jeans that fall off every other minute. Their contracted kills are "bustin' a cap in dat nigguh'z ass."

What does "Gangster" mean?
A person who belongs to a group of people designated for one purpose, often profit via crimes, such as, but not limited to, blackmail, drug dealing, prostitution and racketeering. The first and most successful gangsters were the Italian mob(Mafia). For black/latino gangster, see gangsta.
I live in New York, my town is very much Mafia run. The Italian gangsters will leave you alone so long as you do not interfere with their business. If you do, you will very likely end up dead at the bottom of a lake.

They are 3 types
1. Mafiosi- synonymous with Sicilian culture, they do organized crime mostly extortion, gambling, narcotics, contract killing, prostitution etc.
2. The Hood Gangster_ synonymous with African- American culture depicted mostly in hip hop to immitate gangs like Crips and Bloods who do beef killings and territory feuds.
3. Bikeys - synonymous with gangs of bearded whites with bandannas tied on their heads. they move on motor bikes in large packs of around 30 & more thinkin they can intimidate everyone. see Hell's Angels

Well most would say the Mafia but there are different kind the Italian mob is organized but there is African mob which are under the radar and still do everything the Italian mafia does...then there's the "Gangstas" the dudes on the corner that commit senseless killing but still get money they are more out there with their crimes but go to jail or end up dead much faster

1) The first and oldest real gang is the Chinese Mafia aka Triad. They were the first biggest gang/mafia that started in Asia and was the first in the world. Then followed by the Japanese mafia aka Yakuza, then the Europeans. These Asian Mafias participated in every kind of crime but generally in the blackmarket. Triad is the world's number one drug dealers in Asia and is the biggest underground and most wanted drug-traffickers in the U.S. Asian gangs are the most well-discreet, clever and underground clan. 2) Just below the ladder is the Italian Mobs. They are one of the most well respected and well known Mafia in the U.S. These guys participate in many types of crimes, usually murder. They act on their plans secretely but are usually busted for leaving clues behind.
3) Street gangs. Bloods, Crips, Mexicans gangs, Asian gangs, etc. These are the clans that also participate in every crime but are usually not very serious. Located in ghetto parts of the city.
