What is Edgy?
A typically negative form of generalization regularly misused by lazy people to describe anything that is too extreme(often violent or emotional) for their personal tastes.
Commonly used in place of or combined with the term Emo.
Person1: "Did you try that Dark Souls game?" "I thought it was quite good"

What does "Edgy" mean?
An edgy person is some one who typically believes they hold and/or understand the hard truth of life. They are NOT: People who think they are cooler than everyone(See: Douchebag), although they may believe they are at a higher class than most people due to their views, thus making them somewhat of douchebags anyway. These people are often synonymously referred to as nihilists, and while nihilists do fit the basic definition of edgy people, you do NOT have to be a nihilist or have nihilistic views to be edgy. Edgy people are often mistakened for teens attempting to look cooler or impressive in others eyes, but this is generally not the case. While edgy people are more likely to be teens and young adults, their reasoning for their edgy behavior is generally to appear different.
Etymology: The term "Edgy" may refer to edgy people's personalities that may come off as "living on the edge", mainly due to their dark and sometimes even depressive outlooks.
An edgy person often has the following attributes:
1. They think they understand everything or something specific about something, usually life or it's experiences. Their "understanding" generally takes a dark or "hardcore" turn.
2. They may do over the top, "hardcore" things. Unlike your typical dumb teen, they do not do these things to look cool, but will often do these things for the exact opposite, strongly hoping to appear "different" or more enlightened to others.
3. They'll typically appeal to equally as edgy media and may develop their edginess from such media and media figures. Edgy media and media figures include but are not limited to: XXXTentacion, Tyler the Creator, Rick and Morty etc etc
Some social groups often become inadvertently edgy such as Feminism and the LGBT community(Mainly with the "gender" sect of the movement.)

Edgy, means if your a bitch or another person is the bitch, they or you hate on a emo or goth so you call them edgy as a insult, edgy is a common insult too emos and goths or you could say edgy as someone who is emo or goth and genuinley Is Cringe and try to look tough by looking emo or goth if you see then their probably 12 year olds who's trying to look tough and look cool or they could be wannabe vampires or powerful beings etc

Something new-age or cool, never done before and groundbreaking.
Though this is the true definition, the word is usually misused as being for goths (not emo because emo is a kind of music) who overreact and and depressing themes
This misconception was probably started by the word being used ironically for stupid ideas that were just "too underground for you to understand"

A word most commonly used by the youth, specifically kids who are not cool and salty who don't like anyone who is cooler than them. The words origin comes from a more irrelevant group who play overwatch and undertale.

Edgy
Usually referencing the act of or being of a person that is 'trying' to be or may 'be' on the cutting-edge of something specific, or in general (very obscure music, extravagantly violent Asian horror movies, etc.) to be cool and ahead of the norm, and is usually used as an insult in most contexts.
Most people who get plastered with this label in a truthful manner, and not in an insult-like manner usually of which is improperly describing someones tastes in said things, are 'kids' or in general people who psychology have pushed themselves into a funnel of wanting to be part of something different because they can't fit in to anything else. Or to build a pseudo-ego to have something to be proud of, when in reality it is just making them look very dumb.
