Aspergers Syndrome - what is it?
An illness that is definitely not just a mild form of autism. It is definitely milder than autism, but Asperger syndrome is a different condition and it has different (but similar) symptoms. However, despite all the hype and overdiagnosis, very little is actually known about the condition.
The most commonly-known 'symptom' is having trouble in social situations, including problems making eye contact, for example. Sometimes, people with this condition may have poor motor coordination, which may lead to failure in team sports.
Despite popular opinion, people with Asperger syndrome do not have any trouble realizing social situations or people's emotions. They do, however, have a problem in responding accordingly, mainly because of the fear and tension that human contact causes. This fact is demonstrated by experiments that show that people with Asperger syndrome have no problem identifying the proper social behavior when in a controlled laboratory setting with no people around.
This is counter to people with autism, who do indeed have serious problems diagnosing social situations, not just problems responding to them.
Asperger syndrome causes a huge range of problems in life that can manifest or lead to depression, social anxiety disorder, rejection, and even suicide in some cases.
Despite this, Asperger's is no excuse not to try to lead a normal life, as demonstrated by the large number of people who have succeeded at their jobs, at social life, and marriage despite having Asperger's. However, a person with, say, diabetes may live a relatively normal life too. Just because a disease does not force one to live their life on a hospital bed doesn't mean it is not a real illness.
Despite my having Asperger syndrome and all the problems that go along with it, I've managed to live a relatively normal life using self-discipline, a small but nonetheless friendly social circle, and the occasional dose of professional help/advice.
What does "Aspergers Syndrome" mean?
A word I've been accustomed to since age 11.
It's a real thing and can be beneficial and allowing the "aspie" to think in a different way beneficial to everyone to break up the demon of monotonous conformity which is deemed by the collective human opinion as dangerous! lol
But at times, it can indeed be rather crippling to the individual who has it.
Me?
1) I have a stereotypy of rapidly shaking my right leg up on the front of the foot at machinegun speed and I have occassional weird finger twitching in response to a sensory experience deemed strange/weird or unpleasant or when making a point.
2) I have problems with eye contact.
3) Social anxiety is common when trying to do some things.
4) Depression is common from dealing with having a hard time dealing with surroundings and change.
5) Verbose, pedantic, and idiosyncratic language. I was always know for having a wide vocabulary.
6) We tend often to be more on logic.
7) We also tend to think in pictures.
8) Preoccupation with a subject of interest, ranging from the practical to the esoteric. It can be virtually anything.
It's a real thing that can range from being hard to deal with to a definite aid to add onto societies even if we are sometimes on that edge.
But be aware that the depictions and displays of those of with AS are often exaggerated. We're not all geniuses as the IQ level of us often ranges from average to above average. But we can provide a refreshing look on things.
I have Asperger's Syndrome! I know it! I love it! I'm proud of it! And damn anyone who plans to eliminate it as a diagnosis or category! And I would have made a longer explanation but the damn 1500 character limit on the explanation killed that! lol

Asperger’s Syndrome (AS) is a neurodevelopmental condition related to the autism spectrum. Affected individuals (usually of normal or above average intelligence, capable of intense focus, strong attention to detail, painstaking adherence to policies and procedures, unorthodox problem-solving and high productivity in the areas of their interests and aptitudes) are prone to motor coordination impairments, sensory oversensitivities, have difficulty interacting socially along “unwritten rules”, reading nonverbal language or navigating workplace politics, may prefer solitary activities and are often viewed as eccentric. As a tragic result, many end up un- or underemployed and on the receiving end of prejudice , bullying , negative stereotyping, harassment and discrimination.
Here's a victory story about a SoCal woman with Asperger's Syndrome who stood firm and fought a good fight -- and won her case against an employer! It's people like this who make life better for Aspies who are not able to break through on their own, who rely on others to carve a path that they can follow. I'm grateful for those with the ability to make a difference such as this woman has done. Just read. It will warm the cockles of your heart and make this Thanksgiving Day better!

Aspergers Syndrome - definition
A neurological disorder with a variety of symptoms. It is a milder form of autism.
One who has Asperger's (often shortned to AS) is likely to have social difficulties, and may experience speech delays or problems with motoric skills.
It is important to understand that there is a spectrum, where one can have mild AS or severe AS, and most symptoms can be mild or severe as well.
People with AS have a tendency to be loners due to social difficulties. They may have trouble making eye contact, starting conversations, or they will obsess over a certain subject.
A list of all symptoms would be long and is more fitting to an encyclopedia or psycological handbook than a dictionary.
People with Asperger's Syndrome are not neccesarily less intelligent as stereotypes would have one believe.
He has trouble making friends because he has Asperger's Syndrome.
Aspergers Syndrome - slang
A very real condition which a person may be born with. "Symptoms" include lack of social skills, and difficulty reading/understanding social "cues", body language, &c, difficulty forming and maintaining friendships and relationships, and the like. However, it affects people in different ways. Some (such as me) may well "grow out" of it, and ultimately the "disorder" becomes less obvious in the social environment, in which case it's best described as a retardation of social development. However, others fare less well and suffer lifelong problems as a result of the condition.
Other characteristics may include higher than average intelligence and vocabulary, and ultimately a tendency to see the world a different way, which can be scary to some neurotypicals.
It's a difference I have had to cope with all my life, having been diagnosed at the age of 7 and has caused me real difficulties in life (and to a certain degree, still does). I am not the only one it causes real difficulty to; indeed there is growing awareness of the problems faced by people with autistic-spectrum disorders, however some people seem to think the disorder is somehow "fake" or "not real" (I refer of course to some of the other definitions posted on here).
However, this does not bother me, rather it amuses me that a group of fat, comfortable individuals with time on their hands to spend posting ill-informed, pig-ignorant, and sometimes downright illiterate definitions on UD seem to think that their opinion somehow matters more than that of the world's smartest and most experienced people in the field of psychiatry.
I have Asperger Syndrome. This does not make me better than you, nor does it make me worse. It just makes me different. I am a person, not a puzzle

Imagine a tiny mind, half the size of a tic-tac. This pseudo-mind contains all of the ingredients of full-blown intelligence. Then crush that pill up and dissolve it into an Olympic swimming pool.
That is the lot of the average Neurotypical.
Unfortunately, they have not a fraction of the mental wattage to understand something as complex as Aspergers syndrome or Autism, particularly as those 'conditions' generally impart an order of magnitude more intelligence than the average Neurotypical.
Oddly, Neurotypicals can't spell either.

Basically, some whiny teenage emo outcasts figured out that they could easily fit in with others of their own kind, but only at the expense of being just a teeny bit able to think. Then they started making this bullshit movement for other whiny ~unique~ teenagers to join them. So that they could all meet together on the Internet and have a giant fucking circlejerk about how ''UNIQUE'' and ''MISUNDERSTOOD'' they are. To make themselves feel better they beat up on quiet kids until the parents' complain, but the whiny teens get a few dipshit doctors to vouch for them. Their grammar remains apalling.
Attention-whoring Emo Neurotypical Dickhead: "Fear my Vulcan mind-abilities, puny earthling, for I have Asperger's Syndrome!" - is an exaggeration, amazingly with correct spelling and grammar, but by and large this world was *created* by people with Asperger's/Autism and other genius-generating conditions. And Psycopaths, the homo sapiens' natural internal predator. Neurotypicals really are just the meat and sewerage of the system, they serve no 'central' purpose, but its important for them to believe that they do. Can you honestly imagine a Neurotypical conceiving of 'Courts' or 'Parliament' ? Can you imagine them designing the engineering concepts that go into building a house? A skyscraper? A car? A rocket? A real condition that real people have. Someone with aspergers(aspie) May be socially awkward, be an obsessive talker, miss social ques, sensitive emotionally, confused by figurative speech, be intensely creative, and tell the truth constantly, or be easily overwhelmed by light or sounds.
Although people with Asperger’s syndrome are more minor than other cases of autism, Aspies have to deal with bullying often in their lives.
