Generally men... who like to coverup or divert attention away from embarrassments or wrongdoings they are hiding in an effort to save their reputation. Or whom attempt to make someone seem less deserving or incredible in a situation for personal gain.
He is a pathological liar to hide his lack of self control and selfishness.

It sometimes isn’t even about big things. They’ll lie about anything just because they feel like it. Also when people expose them for being a liar the either lie more to get out of it or get extremely defensive.
