Portmanteau of the words "faux" (not genuine or real; being an imitation of the genuine article) and "homo" (Used as a disparaging term for a gay man or lesbian.)

This is a person who chooses to distance him/herself from the hetero norm of society, whether or not s/he is straight, gay or bi.
A fauxmo is a self-identified politically aware person who has probably read Foucault, or has at least heard of him.
Fauxmos often do not display the typical tropes of heterosexual society such as marriage, kids, mortgages and patio heaters.
Fauxmos do understand the importance of valuing individuals on their own merits and qualities and not judging or stereotyping them according to limiting memes and prejudiced views of sexuality and gendered behaviour.

A fauxmosexual male may display metrosexual attention to hygiene, style, and culture, have an effeminate speech pattern or display effeminate behavoir in gesticulation and mannerism, and/or give the basic impression of being gay. A faumosexual female may be fairly butch in appearance and style, display a militant feminist ("feminazi") attitude toward men, or show strong proclivities toward Lilith Fair or other female empowerment. These are the people you "just know" are gay, but who seem to show proof to the contrary.
