What is ak 47?

The Avtomat Kalashnikova model of 1947 is a gas operated, selective fire assault rifle designed from 1945 to 1946 by Soviet tank commander Mikhail Kalashnikov to fill the need for a rifle-caliber automatic infantry weapon within the Soviet military, after experiences against the German StG-44 which deeply influenced Soviet doctrine in the post-war years. It has become the single most prolific weapon ever created, with models in use by military and police, or civilian consumers in nearly every country in the world. Chambered in the intermediate 7.62x39mm R.

The AK-47 is best described as an amalgamation of several previous weapons designs. It has the Trigger, Double locking lugs, and unlocking raceway of the M1 Garand and M1 Carbine, the Safety mechanism of the John Browning designed Remington Model 8, and the layout and gas system of the StG-44.

Versions of the AK-47 include the following:

AK-47 Type 1/2(1948-1951) - Most rifles manufactured with a milled steel receiver.

AK-47 Type 3(1952) - All rifles manufactured with a milled steel receiver.

RPK - Handheld Automatic-Rifle variant with a longer barrel and a bipod.

AKM - Modernized variant with various improvements over the AK-47.

AK-74 series - Series of the AK-type rifle which replaced the AK-47 in 1978. Chambered in 5.45x39mm

AK-101/AK-102/AK-103/AK-104 series - modernizations of the AK-74

AK-107/AK-108 series - incorporates a balanced bolt group, reducing muzzle jump, vibrations, and felt recoil.

The Avtomat Kalashnikova model 1947, or AK-47, is the single most prolific assault rifle ever created, second to none, although the rifles quality is questionable.

Ak 47 - meaning

The AK 47 uses the 7.62x39mm assault rifle round. Several of the definitions below have glaring errors. Firstly the AK47 was one of a new breed of weapon invented by the germans at the end of WWII but never fielded in any great number. The assault rifle uses a cut down rifle bullet in a short rifle cartridege case. This is different than a true carbine that fires a pistol bullet in a scaled up cartride case through a short rifle. This was a new concept meant to provide infantry with a lighter weapon and ammo than the full size battle rifles of the day, without the loss of power assosciated with carbines or SMG's. The russians fielded the german assault rifles in a heavily modified design, using the cartride invented by the germans almost immediately following the war. There is ZERO relationship of the 7.62mm assault rifle round to the 7.62 rounds used by snipers. The American 7.62x51mm "308 Winchester" is almost twice the size and weight of an AK round, and the Soviet Block 7.62x54Rmm "Mosin Nagant" the standard eastern block round, is een bigger. The American adoption of the 5.56x45mm round during the Vietnam war was the result of scientific analysis of engagements during Korea and Vietnam. The range of the full size battle round was unecessary, so the Americans adopted the assault rifle concept taking it an evolutionary step further with a smaller higher velocity round. This was the underapreciated genius of Eugene Stoner. The Russians followed suit shortly after with the AK74 which is mechanically identical to the AK47 but chambered in the 5.45x39 round. Incidetally through no accident the casual design tolerances of the AK74 allow it to fire the American 5.56 round for short periods should the need arise. The M-16 series has tolerances far to tight to allow this. In the future if your going to write a definition try to know what you are talking about.

Snipers use battle rifles like the Druganov, and M-21,not assault rifles like the AK 47. Only a moron would make that mistake.

Ak 47 - slang

a shoulder fired assult rifle that was made into production an 1947. it fired a 7.62mm*39 round. it is gas operated which means the bolt moves back by using the gas exerted by the bullet. it has a muzzle velocity of 2350 fps. it is virtually indestructable and it was designed my avtomat kalashnikov. there is a newer version of the ak which is called the ak 74

the vietnamese used the ak 47. in the 60s the m16 vns were horrible so the us forces would use it and often get caught in frendly fire.

Ak 47

Russian assault rifle, NOT MACHINE GUN, invented around 1947. Many models followed in its footsteps. It chambers a 7.62mm x 39mm round, Russian. (NATO 7.62s are 7.62mm x 45mm I believe.)

Avtomat Kalashnikov 47 is its full name. Real gangsters would use AK-47s, while the new age ones would use just 9mm. Guns that look like it star in many action games or movies, and it would even make appearances on TV shows.

One needs a class 3 license to legally own one of these AK-47s, unless its modified for semi-auto only. You can legally hunt with a semi-auto AK-47, since it does use a standard hunting round. (7.62mm). Rumor has it, it costs 300 dollars to buy one in the USA, but only like 40 U$D to buy it in Russia.

An example of a descendent of the AK47 would be the AK-74, which chambers a 5.45mm x 39mm round. I questioned around why Russians were so obsessed with making smaller bullets (even their 7.62 is smaller than NATO rounds), one response was "its cheaper. We Russians are poor."

AK-47 is a popular gun, carried from gangs to elite terrorist factions. It is also a very effecient assault rifle, but has a lot of kickback, because of the fact that its a sniper round. (7.62 is used in many snipers, and hunting rifles).

Ak 47

A potent strain of marijuana. Named because the AK stands for Afghan Kush, a mountain range in afghanistan where the strain originated. The 47 refers to the approximate 47 day flowering period, which is a shorter flowering period than most strains of marijuana.

All of the euros and little wigger kids who submitted a definition of AK 47 (the marijuana strain)to this site are morons and don't know what they are talking about.

Ak 47

Originally developed and finalized by Mikhail Kalashnikov in the year 1947, the AK47 was meant to be a rifle for tank crews, who could not fit a full sized rifle into their tank. It was so successful that it was adopted by the Russian army, and exported to all of Russia's allies. It's most recognizable feature is its superb reliability, it will function in environments that other weapons would malfunction in. It fires 7.62 x 39mm ammunition(by comparison, an M16 fires 5.56 x 45mm).

This is the AK47 assault rifle. It is the preferred weapon of your enemy, and it makes a very distinct sound when fired at you.
