What is St. Mary's County?Located on the southern tip of Maryland, this county has been deemed the birthplace of "religious freedom" (which is really just a nice way of saying that as long as you were Christian during the time of the colonists you were okay, but by law you could still be murdered if you were an atheist, a buddhist, or of any other faith). Colonists first settled on what is now known as St. Clement's Island in 1634, where the country's first Catholic mass was said. I've been trying to get out of St. Mary's County since I got here. Home of Patuxent River Naval Air Station...where many astronauts got their start. Without St. Mary's, Maryland would never have existed. We have rural areas as well as suburbs. We are a bedroom community for Washington DC for those who don't want to deal with Montgomery, PG, and Howard County's yuppie crap.
