What is Nintendo 64?

The nintendo 64 was an awesome console and still is. I remember growing up on this thing. I got it when i was 5 when it first came out and had it for a while. It had so many good games like: Super Mario 64, Mario Kart, Zelda(s), James Bond: Golden eye and so many others. I had so many fond memories with the N64. I would rent a game almost every week and try to beat it before I had to give it back. I rented Goldeneye like 11 times it was so much fun. I wish I never got rid of it. It is so much better than the new ones, it may not look as good, but the games are alot better.

I miss my nintendo 64..

What does "Nintendo 64" mean?

Although not a bad system in itself, the N64 had several problems, like a lack of good titles(Zelda,Mario,Goldeneye,Perfect Dark,Super Smash Bros.,Banjo,Conker, and a few others were the best),an over abundance of dull Pokemon games,a large controller that seemed to wear out easily,a lack of CDs,and expensive add-ons like the 64DD(Japan only) and Expansion pack plagued it.

I still get out my N64 when my friends are over for a Mario Tennis session. It kicks ass.

Nintendo 64 - what does it mean?

Nintendo's system made to compete with the Sony Playstation and SEGA Saturn. The 64 got it's name because it was 64 bit, unlike the PSX and Saturn which were 32 bit.
The 64 was the first console with an analog stick and the first console with a vibrating controller. However being a cartridge based system, it had inferior sound quality. But becuase it was a cartridge based system it was very reliable (Good luck finding a broken one.) Also cartridges have less space on them then CDs, so Nintendo lost alot of 3rd party support. Cartridges are expensive and companies didn't want to pay tons to put a huge game across multiple cartridges.
The 64 had smoother graphics then any other console that generation, though the colour palette had heaps of crappy oranges and such.
The 64's controller was revolutionary, but crap. The analog stick could be worn out quickly (If you want your controller to last stay away from Mario Party.) Also the c buttons were hard to reach.
Some popular 64 games are: Super Smash Bros, Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, F-Zero X, Mario Party, Mario Tennis, Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Perfect Dark, GoldenEye 007, Conker's Bad Fur Day and Lylatwars.

The Nintendo 64 was revolutionary, yet it had a crap controller and little 3rd party support. Overall, it has enough great games to warrant a purchase.

Nintendo 64 - meaning

One of the best consoles I've ever owned. While it is true that there were a lack of good Third Party titles, the fact is that I never buy a Nintendo console for Third Party games.

Nintendo made their fans proud with this console. Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask were WONDERFUL, Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark were stunningly good, and Super Mario 64 just wouldn't stop for me. These few Nintendo games managed to last me until the PS2 and GameCube come out!

Let people say what they want, I love this console!

If only there was a true successor to Super Mario 64.

Unfortunately, Super Mario Sunshine is not it and I'm doubting Super Mario 128.

Nintendo 64 - slang

A great system that had quite a few awesome games, like oot and Goldeneye. Unfortunatly, it suffred from many of the problems that come with the limitations of using Cartriges, such as a lack of any CD Audio (meaning they had to use MIDI, which is shitty)

Goldeneye was a fucking awesome game

Nintendo 64

The greatest game system of all time, hands down. N64 is what kept me sane from 2nd grade to my freshman year in high school.

And on the eighth day, God said: Let there be Zelda on Nintendo 64! And God saw that this was, and it was good.

Nintendo 64

The Nintendo64 was the first console that offered serious 3D graphics processing. It had an unusual development, the result of a partnership between Nintendo and Silicon Graphics, and the system was based on technology used in Silicon Graphics high-end MIPS-based workstations, using a custom R4300i chipset - and the entire system retailing less than $300, was a remarkable feat at the time. As such, the system was far ahead of it's time. The casing was a very durable, hard plastic design, cart, instead of CD based, and featured an unusual controller that was ergonomically superior to anything before it - and turned out later, ideally suited to first person and fighting games. The Nintendo64 enjoyed a long life, and several historically significant games developed natively for the system that remain to this day benchmarks in game design.

Person 1: "Dude, remember the first time you saw Mario 64 on display? That was what real next gen was all about."

Person 2: "Yeah, I first saw the title screen, ran over, pushed away all the little kids shoving Mario's mustache up his nose, man did my Playstation games look tired then. I'll never forget that."
