Football means different things in different places. In the United States of America, it refers to American Football, which involves 11 padded players (the offense) attempting to bring an oblong ball into the oppenents endzone, whereas the other 11 players (the defense) try to stop this from happening while trying to cause a turnover (interception, recovered fumble) or make the offense go 3 and out; as 4 downs are given to the offense to advance 10 yards. If they do so, they are given 4 fresh downs. To see more, search American Football or click on the link provided.
Football elsewhere refers to what I and other Americans know as soccer; which involves 11 players on each team attempting to kick a checkered sphere into the opponents goal. Hands can only be used by the goalie, who can not leave the rectangle in front of their goal; other players must move the ball by kicking it or heading it. See other definitions on this page or search soccer for further explanation.
I love to play American Football, whether it is casually with friends or competitively with my school team. I however do not like competitive soccer, though I do like playing casually with friends. It is a matter of prefence, and will everyone stop bickering about which one is better? It is opinion, nothing else.
Fan: Football kicks soccer's f&*%ing ass! Soccer eats hairy balls.
Fan: Football kicks American football's f#$%ing ass! American football eats hairy balls.
Reasonable Person: Oh shut up, both of you idiots. They're both good sports.
Contrary to the beliefs of many brits on here, football is a sport in which teams try to move the ball past the opposing team's goal line to score a touchdown. It is not a game just played by ass-slapping fatasses, it is actually one of the most demanding sports in the world. Players must memorize a playbook sometimes containing hundreds of plays. Football is the ultimate team sport, teammates must learn to rely on each other in clutch situations. And if you think wearing pads makes football players pussies, then you try getting crushed by a 250 pound linebacker. The pads are used more for weapons than anything. And football has equally passionate fans as soccer does, however you dont see us starting mobs that eventually trample 50 people to death.
Brit: American football is for pussies and wankers hehehe it stops every two seconds and therefore i hate it and all americans!!!!
*Not to be confused with American Football.
Football, often called 'The Beautiful Game', is invented by the English and is the most popular sport worldwide. The general objective of the game is to score more goals in their goal than the other team. It has two teams, each with eleven players separated into 4 positions:
It comprises of two goals on either side of the pitch, with each team owning their own half. The goal that they want to shoot in is on the opposite side to their half.
Each team starts on one side of the pitch, which changes in the second half, and consequently so does the goal they want to shoot in.The game lasts for about 90 minutes (not including extra time) split into two 45 minute halfs, separated by a 10-15 minute 'half time' period.
Football is the real name of "soccer." It is all about passion and team work, 1 player doesn't win the world cup, but all 11 players. For some people, football is not a game, it is life, it is filled with ups and downs like other sports but it should not be put next to American Football. American Football has 1 season every year and then stop, but Football is widely play, after a season players get called up to play for there national teams, including during the season, that makes it more difficult that's why you need endurance and ability.
All of them orginaly rooting from china but the first actually established football was played very much like american football except it had little to no rules and was played on a much bigger "field" in between villages
Association football(soccer)- Very popular in UK and third world countries, widely played all around the world but not in north america for some reason, a sport played by kicking a ball with the goal being putting into a net(1).
American football (NFL) - Popular mainly in the US but thanks to the internet growing in western and central Europe, a sport where you can either pass, rush, kick or punt the ball with the goal being scoring a touchdown (6,2),field goal(3,1) or a safety(1)
Rugby football (rugby) - a sport popular in the UK and SA, predecessor to american and australian football, you can score by try/touchdown(5), penalty(3), conversion(2), drop goal(3)
**Many people believe that the name soccer is something the americans made up so they could call their precious sport football but it's actually what British people used to call it back in the day, and american football was also technically called just football before association football was
