What is Death Penalty?

A highly controversial issue. But must be done. People whine that those on death row have rights, well to get there you have to do something horrible. What about the victims? Didn't they have rights? A man rapes and murders 35 little girls and your telling me he doesn't deserve death? When it is proven he can not be reformed? That bull if you ask me. Today there is enough technology that the people on death row DESERVE it. The possibility of it being wrong is very slim. If you rape, molest, murder, a large number of people/children you should die. You took their lives so why should you keep yours? You didn't think about their rights or family or life why should anyone think about yours? Basically, if you are put on death row you deserve it. And if you have the balls to fight it sadly it's about 10 years before you get the needle so fight all you like.

The death penalty is necessary. I value human life, but if you can take another person's life in cold blood in a such a way that you are given the death penalty, then so be it. Case closed. It's a tough subject but this is where I stand and most rational compassionate people should (yes compassionate because you need to think about the victim's family and put yourself in their shoes) Sadly in America criminals have more rights than victims. What was ment to protect has only destroyed. And that's basically it.

Death Penalty - what is it?

Comedian John Oliver put it well on the Daily Show when he compared the death penalty to the McRib- "When it's gone, it seems so tantalizing. But once you have it, you think to yourself, this is ethically wrong. Should this be aloud in a civilized society?"

The death penalty is a controversial and often emotional issue, yet John Oliver was witty enough to poke fun at it in a way that would make people on both sides of the issue laugh.

What does "Death Penalty" mean?

I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions people have about liberals and the death penalty. Many conservatives, with their usual black and white thinking, suppose that every single American liberal alive opposes the death penalty, and not only that, but feels sorry for the criminal to boot. This is balderdash however. We despise criminals just as much as you do, and only a very small but vocal minority of liberals actively opposes the death penalty.

To the main point: Why do some liberals oppose the death penalty?

A) It's very, very expensive. Yes, a lot more so than just shoving the bastard in prison for the rest of his life. Huge pull on our tax dollars
B) The number of people who have been wrongfully convicted, sentenced to death, and then found to be innocent is disturbingly high.
C) Statistically, minorities are far, far more likely to be put to death largely because of preconceived biases among the jury. Also, poorer minorities have to deal with shitty public defenders that can't put forth a good case, unlike far wealthier white criminals who can hire the best of the best.

If it were up to me, the death penalty would be applicable only in cases of definitive guilt (hard evidence that the perpetrator is the right dude). Also, he'd have to be at least 18, of course, and above a certain IQ threshold.

Death Penalty - what does it mean?

An "eye for an eye" method of criminal punishment in which the criminal is put to death prematurely. There are many different ways of carrying out the death penalty. The earliest were gas chambers, after that they were replaced by firing squads and the electric chair, and today the lethal injection is the most common one.

Random death penalty fact: Utah is the only state that still executes by firing squad.

Death Penalty - meaning

A penalty that is given to people who deserve it (i.e. murderers). Many have said that the death penalty is wrong. Yeah, well, I rather a bunch of murderers be executed than have to pay taxes that will support the prisons holding them.

I'm not particularly sure why, but the main thing usually said to me is "we have no right to condemn someone to death". This is the usual reason I hear for not supporting the death penalty, but it's ludicrous. The murderer obviously believes they have the right to condemn someone to death. Are others suppose to be "above" him and not stoop to his level? Yeah, whatever. Maybe I'm just one of those guys who don't like living alongside those kind of people.

Of course, many have also critized the Republicans for supporting the death penalty while being pro-life. Um, HELLO? You're comparing the murder of a BABY to the murder of a MURDERER! Notice the difference? Man, King Solomon must be rolling in his grave to hear a bunch of self-righteous assholes say shit like this.

I fully support the death penalty and I hope Congress change the "unlimited appeals" ability of death row inmates to only "three appeals". Better yet, also set a maximum time limit of one year instead of all this "10 years on death row" bullshit.

Death Penalty - definition

The act of putting a particularly loathsome criminal in a chair and then running enough electricity through the chair to kill it. Other methods include lethal injection, hanging, firing squads, and gas chambers.

An act that should be administered much, MUCH more frequently as it is a great way to curb our nation's problem with jail populations.

Oh and don't even bother telling me that "it costs more to put someone to death than to keep them alive on Death Row for 20 years." No, it doesn't. Let's do the math.

20 years of food and water + court costs and lawyer fees = Lots of money.

1 trial + 1 last meal + 1 bullet = A lot less money.

And what you "economists" don't realize is that we're putting people to death AFTER they've been on Death Row for 20 years! So it doesn't matter which one costs more, because the taxpayers are paying for both.

Oh and for the rest of you that say "The Death Penalty is not a deterrent." That's because we don't administer it enough. Start putting all child rapists and murderers to death immediately after the trial, and watch the crime rate drop since most child rapists and murderers are repeat offenders.

Death Penalty - slang

An effective method of deterring truly worthless individuals from doing a capital offense again. Works better when someone is killed based on their actions (like sodomize a child) than things they did not choose to do (like be black) The only thing that rocks more than the death penalty is the Deity. Whoops, one thing rocks more than the Deity, a Deity which has automatic death penalty (which occured in Biblical times)

Schoolite: We should abolish the death penalty because it kills people who have value. Me: Well if you want a world full of people who do violent and sexual crimes, then the death penalty is not for you.

Death Penalty

A double-edged sword. No human has the true authority to condemn someone to death, however, The Death Penalty does seem satisfying in some specific cases.

I hated friday nights lights, the director deserves the Death Penalty.
