Confederate States - what does it mean?

A group of states that didn't like the way United States of America was going, so they said they weren't really part of the United States of America anymore. The rest of the country didn't like this, so they started a war. A lot of people think the war was fought over slavery, but that was just one issue among many. Most southerners didn't even own slaves, although most of the ones who did owned a lot of them. The next most common thing is to own one slave or no slaves.

If the Confederate States of America had won, things would be so much better now. People would've abolished slavery eventually and the Confederate States of America were much more for state rights than our government is today.

Confederate States - meaning

A rebellion led by rich, southern plantation owners and politicians against the Federal Government of the United States of America.

The main cause of this rebellion was, first and foremost, slavery. The Union (another name for the U.S) was slowly becoming more and more abolitionist in the 1800's, and as a result the Southern elite felt the need to disregard any basic human decency they had left and fight for the enslavement of millions of African Americans. This was the main reason the Southern states seceded. Things like "States rights" and tariffs are secondary reasons and were very minimal compared to slavery.

In late 1860, numerous states in the deep south announced their secession from the Union after the election of Abraham Lincoln. Despite being an abolitionist, Lincoln pledged not to interfere with slavery in the South. The southern elite, however, ignored this and militias fired on numerous federal forts and properties throughout 1861, one such being Fort Sumter in North Carolina, which marked the beginning of the American Civil War.

The war would go on for 4 years, ending in 1865 with General Lee's surrender to General Grant.

Look at those idiots waving the confederate flag. I bet they couldn't even spell "Confederate States of America".

Confederate States - definition

The Confederate States of America, or CSA rebellion government that seceded from the USA to preserve and expand slavery. Before the election of Abraham Lincoln a collection of southern US states became fearful of the growing abolition movement and upon the election of Lincoln to the presidency, chose to break away from the US to form their own government, dedicated to preserving and expanding the institution of slavery. After 4 long years of bloody battle however, they were soundly defeated and soon reintegrated into the US. Even with that defeat however, the veterans of the Confederacy successfully painted the CSA in a brighter light, creating the β€œLost Cause” myth. Today the Confederate States are seen in a much harsher light and the major controversy of the statues that the veterans put up is still being fought in the streets of the deep south today.

Jim: It was for states rights that the Confederate States broke from the Union

Bill: A states rights for what
