What is Astana?
Astana is the capital city of Kazakhstan. The Ak Orda Presidential Palace is topped with a massive blue-and-gold dome. The giant, tent like Khan Shatyr Entertainment Center houses a shopping mall and indoor beach resort.
In his inaugural speech, Tokayev praised Nazarbayev as "an outstanding reformer" and called for renaming the capital city, Astana, "Nur-Sultan.".
"Walking around the city of Nursultan (ex-Astana), you'll turn onto Nursultanovsky Avenue and walk past Nursultan University. On the way to the Nursultan monument, you might venture into the Nursultan store."

Astana - what is it?
The Capital of Kazakhstan since 1997 (till that year the capital was in Alma-Ata city). Former names - Akmolinsk, Tselinograd, Akmola. The city is located in the central part of Kazahstan on the Ishim river. A population about 600 thousand (and constantly increases). Sights: the Bayterek (symbolical monument of the sacred Tree of Life), the Duman Entertainment Complex (the farthest oceanarium from World Ocean in the world), the building of Parliament, the Congress-Hall etc.
Astana became a capital of the Republic of Kazakhstan on December 10,1997.
